When did you give your baby a stuffed animal to sleep with? And what was it?

I really want to give my little guy (7 months) a sleeping friend, but the guidelines for SIDS prevention say to wait until 12 months.

The second I think, "I'm sure he'll be fine" a split second later, I think "God forbid something happens..." and scrap the idea.

DH and I were discussing this and we can't understand those little stuffed animal head blankets... those look like they're meant for babies to sleep with, but I'm afraid of the "blanket" part more than anything.

So, when did you let your DC sleep with a stuffed animal and what was it?

We put her little Piglet, that she seemed to love, in there at 5 around months. She's 8 months now & she still has Piglet along with a cute little bear & her my first doll. I was never too worried about stuffed animals but blankets worry me. On cold nights I put a knit blanket on her with big holes in it so she stays warm but my eyes are glued to the monitor all night.
Do what ever your comfortable with.

I agree with PP, do what you're comfortable with. Right now there is nothing but a blanket in the crib with DD (6mo).

My kids have both had 2 stuffed animals in their cribs since they were born. They were more for decoration/stimulation when they were newborns and once they started moving around they were there to play with. However my kids also have had a fleece blanket since day 1 also and bumpers all around so I may not be the best one to listen to if that kind of stuff worries you lol.

I started at 6 months. I use a mini Cloud B stuffed giraffe it has white noise and other sounds. If I put my DS down and if he is crying he will turn on his side and hug the giraffe and go to sleep. He hugs it when sleeping and it is so cute. I started using it once I was certain that he can move around with ease. He sleeps on his side the most but also on his back and tummy because he moves all around at night.

At 5 months we gave her a taggy blanket to sleep with and she still uses it now, at 8.5 months.

DS has a cow that is a blanket with the head, and he loves it, but i am so scared to have him sleep with it in his crib. I give it to him when he is in his car seat and his stroller, and he will fall asleep snuggling with it. He is only 4 months old, so i will wait a little longer and see how i feel and maybe eventually i will let him sleep with it at night.

He had a Glow Worm from about 4 months on that he slept with, then he started showing a liking for the Adan and Anais swaddle blanket to sleep with instead of a stuffed animal. 2 years later, he still sleeps with his "beeks" - one of the A & A swaddle blankets. He likes to twist the corners and chew on them.

Just before his second birthday, DS started sleeping with his my pal Scout and his baby boy doll. Nothing in the crib before then.

He's been sleeping with a stuffed monkey since about a year old, maybe more than that.

10months we gave him scout the talking dog every night and it helped him during cio to soothe him to sleep

now he hugs scout when he goes to sleep

My DD got her "Mimi" doll when she was 2 months old for Christmas from her Grandad.

She is now 6.5 years old and has ALWAYS slept with it.

We did have Mimi in her crib when she was a baby. She didn't really sleep with it until she was moving around in the crib more, and then she slept with it like a babydoll..she was hugging her Mimi at a very young age. Now that she is a big girl Mimi is very important to her. She brings her to sleepovers...and she loves her a lot. She doesn't carry her around all day long but she does always make sure Mimi is in bed with her when she goes to sleep.

This isn't the exact Mimi doll that my DD has --- but this is very close to it...just has slightly different details but it's the same company and pretty much the same...

At 10 months we gave DS a lovey (little froggy head attached to a blanket) and a knitted blanket with big holes. He's done fine with both.

i would say at 6 months we started giving her stuff in her crib. it started with her favorite blanket.....once she was out cold we would go in her room and move it away from her, and eventually we just left it.

now at 19 months she has about 2-3 blankets, 2 stuffed animals, whatever toys she manages to throw in her crib throughout the day, books, bumpers, and even a pillow pet sometimes lol
