When did you first give DC chocolate milk?

I had some yesterday and he wanted some. I didn't give it to him because I wasn't sure I could.

When did you first let DC have chocolate milk?

We haven't b/c Sarah really likes chocolate and I know that she'd stop drinking regular milk if she discovered chocolate milk.

I haven't given it to her because I don't want her to like it too much she refuses regular milk.

I forget, but maybe DS had it around 18 months? It's a special treat at times, like with a picnic lunch if we are out. He does still drink regular milk all the time, so it didn't really make a big difference here.

I do believe I read somewhere that it is a little better to put a teaspoon of chocolate or strawberry syrup in their glass of milk instead of giving them juice because it has a little less sugar and the milk is better for them.

DD is 16 months and she loves strawberry milk. Chat Icon

We haven't yet - but i don't see a problem with it being a special treat at times.

Not there yet....but I did read in a book that doing this is better than juice and they recommended it to get them to drink their milk.

This was just in one of the family magazines that I read. They said that children who drank chocolate milk vs. juice were less likely to have problems with obesity.

Its so odd because you'd think that juice would be better.

We just started to give Kevin chocolate soy milk in hopes of getting him to drink milk out of a cup.

Not to drink yet, but we let her have a few sips from a straw at about 8 months.

Re: When did you first give DC chocolate milk?

17 months--my girls were introduced to chocolate milk..they love it. Now i buy the Chocolate Soy Milk and put a drop in the bottle with the regular milk for an extra treat..at least i feel like they are getting some protein.

Re: When did you first give DC chocolate milk?

I give it to my kids. My youngest is 15 months and he's had it for a few months. I try to keep it to as little as possible but the older ones caught onto that Chat Icon I get Sugar Free Nesquick (powdered) and they love it. I wonder if I should have ever introduced it bc they were good plain milk drinkers before. If you child is enjoying plain milk, I'd say don't give the chocolate yet. My nephew always has choc milk and that's where my older son started getting into it. He started asking for it here and I was still able to keep it weak on the choc but as I mentioned, he (and my DD) got wise to that.

Re: When did you first give DC chocolate milk?

Pre-mixed chocolate milk is LOADED with sugar. Have you ever looked at the content? It's something like 40 grams of sugar in a serving. If you are going to serve chocolate milk, I would stick with powder form or dillute the pre-mixed with white milk.

17 months and not yet. No juice either. There is just too much sugar in it. She will discover it soon enough, but I don't need to rush it. Besides, Jordana is sweet enough just the way she is Chat Icon

Re: When did you first give DC chocolate milk?

My friend's DD is Andrew's age and refuses to drink regular milk. Her Ped told her to mix chocolate milk with regular and gradually dilute until she is used to the regular. So, her Ped thinks its fine.
