Wheelchairs at LICM? (or any other similar place?)

Does anyone know if they have wheelchairs at the LICM that you can use? The site says it's wheelchair accessible, but nothing about whether they have them?

Also, while I'm at it, do any other establishments have wheelchairs to use that you can think of? We are dealing with a fractured ankle from the bounce house place, and the crutches aren't working out. We don't want to be stuck in the house the rest of the Summer Chat Icon

You may be able to rent a wheelchair through your insurance. You can call your local surgical supply store and they should be able to help you.

Thanks, but I don't think that is an option since I drive a car (not an SUV, etc.) and my trunk isn't very large.

Does it have to be a wheelchiar?

What about one of those other things I have seen people with... they look like walkers but with wheels and have a lil seat?

Im gonna look up a pic... Hold please!

Like this??

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=walker+with+seat+and+wheels&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=4015686107803528158&sa=X&ei=25csTqeoIs240AH_hdDkDg&ved=0CJIBEPMCMAI

IDK how old the person is that might need this but it could be an option and it can go in your trunk!

Thank you for posting that! But....he can't bear any weight on his foot, so that probably won't work. I discovered a wagon that holds up to 150lbs and folds up, so I might go that route!

Oh... I was thinking that you would push him... like you might have to in the wheelchair? IDK...

Maybe the wagon sounds good! Just make sure it fits in your trunk b/c I bought a wagon thinking it would fit in my trunk and of course it didn't... I have a different car no so i am fine but it was a pain trying to get it home the day I got it!

Good Luck!

I didn't even think of sitting/pushing on it, hmmm, that might work. I wonder if they rent those at the medical supply store. The wagon folds up really compact, so I'm pretty sure it would fit. I would rather not have to actually purchase something that we won't need after the fact though, so I'm going to look into that walker first. Thank again!

Re: Wheelchairs at LICM? (or any other similar place?)

I would look into renting a transport wheelchair. They fold up really small and would be cheaper than the rollator u posted to rent. I doubt insurance would cover the rollator or the Dr would write a prescription for it if he is NWB on his foot bc its really meant for walking with, not being pushed around on. Also the rollator dosnt fold up much smaller than a wheelchair. JMO, I work in rehab so that is what I would recommend.

Great, thank you so much! Do most medical supply stores have those?

Re: Wheelchairs at LICM? (or any other similar place?)

Dont they make smaller wheelchairs for kids? I know When DH's grandmother was in one, we transported it in the front seat of my Pontiac which is pretty small.

Call the Medical supply place and ask them whatthey have and whats smallest etc, then call the Dr. and pressure them to give you a RX for whatever is the smallest. lol

Good luck!
