Re: Whats everyones feeling on letting their DC watch TV?

my DD is 17 months. She hardly watches TV, i don't really watch much either, the radio is on more during the day and at night.
I don't put on any kiddy shows for her. She glances at The Today with me in the am, and watches Wheel of Fortune at night then goes to bed. The same goes for my 3 month old.
I am SAHM.

My daughter would rather read books or play then watch tv even if a kiddie show was on.
DH and I watch Veggie Tales on Saturday mornings, and she pays no attention :)

DS is 5 months old, he doesn't watch tv, per se, but we put on Sesame Street and a couple of other shows on Noggin for background noise.

The only show he WATCHES is Jack's Big Music Show, he LOVES that one.Chat Icon

I always put Sesame Street on in the morning while DD has her bottle. Then it goes off once she is up and running. Then once in awhile I will put a show on from 3:30-4 ish if I need some down time and we cuddle on my bed or on the couch. Other than that, its not on too much for her but my step son watches his shows after school but she doesn't pay too much attention.

When Hannah was about 2 months I would put on Baby Einstein every now and then. Now she's just not interested. On work days, I put on Sesame Street for about 15 minutes while I do my hair. She'll laugh at Elmo, but that's about it.

I don't usually have the TV on during day. Just the radio or me!!

Julia watches Noggin while she eats her breakfast in the morning, during the afternoon we are out, or reading books at home and coloring, finger painting etc.... At night after her bath she watches PBS kids (Curious George) before she goes to bed. Thats all the T.V she gets.

Katherine watches more TV than I would like, honestly. It's got to be around 2 hours a day. She ONLY watches Sesame Street and Blues Clues, though--strange, huh? I'm really not comfortable doing it, but I'm a SAHM now, and sometimes, frankly, it's just so easy and she's obsessed with these shows. If there's one topic I feel a tremendous amount of guilt over, it's this one!!

I justify it because my DH grew up on TV 24/7 and is truly the smartest person I've ever met and Katherine knows all her letters, her numbers, knows all of our birthdays, etc. and has a better vocabulary than I do Chat Icon

Strangely, I am NOT a TV person at all!

My DD will watch about half an episode of Sesame Street in the morning while I get her ready for day care. On weekends sometimes she'll watch Clifford or Curious George. Other than that we sometimes have the tv on for ourselves but she doesn't really care.

Lauren doesn't watch any at all. Even if it is on, she is not interested and plays with toys and destroys my house instead.

Andrew watches it a few mornings a week (Tues and Thursday when he is not in school and on Saturdays). Maybe an hour to two. And he only started to watch it when he was about 2, that's when he took an interest in it long enough to watch a show. Other than that, I am not a TV person, so my TV is not on all that much during the day. After his shows are over, I turn it off.

2 words. Noggin Rules!

They watch some when they get home from daycare & some on the weekends. They watch more than they should, but I think of it as their down time from a busy day of daycare & school, weekends of running around, etc.

Re: Whats everyones feeling on letting their DC watch TV?

Bella is 4 months and she watches Sesame Street in the morning. If I have things to do around the house I'll put on Jack's Big Music Show. She LOVES boths shows. It's amazing to me how she giggles and laughs at the right times!

Re: Whats everyones feeling on letting their DC watch TV?

No TV for my little guy. Day care doesn't have it and I chose them because of that. Other places I called, I heard it in the background. He's only allowed to watch baseball...

We're hoping to keep it that way until he's 3. I really can't stand kid's shows for some reason.

There's TV on in the background a lot, but the only thing he really pays any attention to is the Wiggles and sometimes the Doodle Bops.

Thats Ella too! She's never been interested in watching any show for more than a second.

Re: Whats everyones feeling on letting their DC watch TV?

DS is 20 months. He watches TV a few hours a day. Before DD came, he didn't watch too much, but now that she is here, I simply cannot play with him and take care of a high maitenance newborn at the same time. And, if the TV is not on, and I cannot play with him, he is a wild beast and gets into everything. I used to feel bad, but not anymore. It helps me keep my sanity. I am a TV junkie and watched TV all the time as a kid and turned out just fine. I really don't see what the big deal is.
