Ry likes all kinds.
He loves the plain old wooden ones, and loves those big colorful ones that link together (they come in a plastic bag and look like big legos).

We have Duplo blocks, mega blocks and the wooden blocks that are all different shapes and colors. He plays with all of them every day.

We started with mega blocks now she likes the biggest size legos.

I bought Robbie soft foam blocks, Duplos and the see through Imaginarium blocks around 2. Noah used those and we added HUMONGOUS pleather covered foam blocks when he was around 2.
ETA: They are 5 and 7 and still use all four sets, plus lots of regular Lego's and Lego sets and about 10 sets of wooden blocks.
