What renovations have you done since moving in?

We moved in on January 1st 2005! This is what we have done:

-converted florida room into a real den. Removed paneling and sheetrocked. Added heat to the room and a wood floor. This added at least 300 sq feet.

-changed to a huge hot water tank.

-added alarm system, new medeco locks, bars on wells of basement windows and security video camera.

-two new marble bathrooms.

-added recessed lighting in den and chandeliers throughout house.

-painted walls, added moldings, and had hardwood floors refinished.

-had all new windows put in on the first floor and basement. 21 in total.

-paved the two flat roofs (our main roof is slate).

-replaced the electric garage door

I think that is it...

- brand new kitchen (totally gutted out)

- new hardwood flooring for the entire 1st floor

- all new appliances (including new washer dryer)

- upgrade the heating system (either add a hot water tank or a tankless system)

- remove two trees in backyard

- install new larger bay window in kitchen

- paint 1st floor

- security system

OH BOY!

Gutted the entire house from top to bottom:

Replaced 80% of the existing exterior structure (beams/sills, etc.).

Ripped off stucco facade/replaced with siding and PVC columns/deck fencing.

Replaced every window, interior/exterior door (garage doors, etc.)

Replaced all electric/plumbing

Replaced entire heating system, including furnace and baseboards

Re-sheetrocked every room. New mouldings/crown/chair rails, etc.

Tiled foyer/office/kitchen/dining room.

Replaced both bathrooms and kitchen

Demolished old driveway/concrete patios - replaced w/new concrete/blacktop/belguim blocks.

PVC Fencing and brickwork

Took down 12 trees, multiple bushes, etc. Replaced with brick planters and landscaping

Installed pool/PVC shed

Carted away about five 30' dumpsters worth of debris.

We basically rebuilt the entire house - used the shell as a template. The only things that are still standing from the orignal owners is one bathroom window, the sliding glass door (which I regret not changing), an old refridge that acts as a back up in the garage, and the dryer. That's it!

Still to do:

Finish garage
In ground Sprinkers
Sod
Completion of the fence on the other side of the property

Although I don't think we'll be up to the challenge at this point

Purchased the house in May 2005 and moved in in July....

We gutted the kitchen, all new applicances, counters, backsplash, floor.

All new windows and added a bay window in front of the house.

Converted den into a dining room, added wood floors, chair rail, crown molding and floor molding. made a diamond shape whole in the wall into a 6' wide opening with 12" moldings around it.....

Added a six-panel door into the walk in pantry that once was a mud room.. (LOVE IT)...

re-painted the entire house.....

Gutted the 1st floor bathroom and re-did the entire thing from the studs up....

Finished the basement area (wash room) added sheetrock, drop ceiling, recessed lights, ceramin floors, and two closets in there....

Added closets in all the bedrooms...

Installed new molding thru out the house....

Took down a brick wall and added sheetrock....

New light fixtures thru out the house....

Upgraded electric to 200 amp service.

removed trees

Added inground sprinklers..

New carpets in all the bed rooms, basement and walk in closet....

Built a huge storage room in the basement.

hummmmm I am sure there is more but thats what I can think of for now...

DOES IT EVER END.....lol


oh wait the to do list... Finish the garage.....

We had our house built and moved in July. The only thing we really did was paint and I added some things to the landscaping

We did all the work before we moved in. We moved in last friday and since then we have been putting door knobs on all the doors - We replaced all the doors - 8 in total....Changed the locks, put up the chandelier, Put up some art, Put together 2 pieces of furniture, and decorated for the holidays

bought the house in september 04 and moved in april 05


did a full complete gutt of the entire house down to the studs and even replaced come of them

re sheetrocked entire first floor and second floor

upgraded electrical service

moved electrical box to another part of the house

installed hi hats in upstairs computer room

hi hats in living room area

hall area down stairs


made landry room on the first floor

complete new granite and tumbled marble kitchen

two new baths with tumbled marble and jacuzzi tub and steam shower in one and ceramic in the other

new roof

new siding

all new interior and exterior doors

new french doors

new hardwood floor for 3 bedrooms and hall upstairs

extended hardwood to match existing downstairs

installed hardwood in den

new windows in 70 percent of the house

new boiler and hot water heater

installed alarm system

im sure im forgetting some things


next year we tackle the outside

we just closed today... what I want done in the house are...

convert florida room into family room/den
put in laminated floors (we have brand new carpets now)
replace the front windows with a bay window
convert the .5 bath into a full bath

We have redone the walls (there used to be stucco (sp?) on one wall in each room

gutted and redid the bath

Put in new cabinets in the kitchen

removed the old and put in a new kitchen fixture

removed the mercury thermostat and put in a digital one

installed an alarm system and new locks on all the doors

installed new washer and dryer too

on the list is to put in a new whole house humidifier

Wow - you all have done so much in so little time!! Where do you find the time and energy and $$$!!

We moved in middle of Dec 2004 (last Dec). Have been in the house a little over a yr now.

Installed alarm system.

Painted foyer and ripped out carpeting and installed pergo flooring.

New carpet in den.

Painted dining room, installed chair rail, new chandelier, refinished hardwood floors in there.

Kitchen - painted, added new door, all new appliances, new backsplash, faucet, sink, countertops, refaced cabinets, new lighting.

Painted 2 bedrooms.

This yr - want to gut bathrooms..

I'm too lazy to type it all-but basically redid the entire inside of the house from the studs up.
Also did some minor landscaping, still need to add curb appeal & redo exterior of the house

retiled the bathroom
painted every room
got all new kitchen appliances
redid kitchen backsplash
put up crown molding

We still want to retile kicthen floor
get new countertops
redo patio and deck area
put up a fence

We have not moved in yet, but will be on January 15th.
Before we move in:
-replaced the sprial staircase with another staircase. Added new posts, rails and ballisters.
-added a new closet underneath the new staircase
-removed the front door and put sheet rock and siding there.
-removed all nasty wallpaper
-fixed fireplace
-swept and cleaned all chimneys
-replaced kitchen countertops
-Primed and repainted the entire house
-sanded and stained all the hardwood floors throught the home
-added a wall to wall carpet in the Master Bedroom
-fixed some of the wiring
-rerouted the rain gutters to street
-fixed the dock and shored up the sailboat for winter
-we did a lot more, I jsty can't remember it all

After we move in:
-new windows throught out entire house including a huge bay window in the great room
-new siding
-extend out the kitchen area of the great room out 8 feet.
-gut and replace kitchen
-add a circular driveway
-weatherproof deck

Can I faint now???????????????

We moved in about a day after we closed,(we ended up buying a cottage) because my dh wanted to be out of his parents house. Not only did we have to move in, but the previous owners had left all the furniture, clothing and knick-knacks for us to get rid of and the house was vacant for about a year and nobody cleaned it. So, needless to say, the 1 day we werent living there I spent cleaning, changed the toilet seat and started to get rid of the furniture. Since we moved in we:

sided the front of the house

changed most of the windows

painted the sides and back of the house

painted the garage

redid the livingroom (brought it down to the studs), rewired, reinsulated, put up new walls, dropped part of the ceiling for recessed lighting, took out a coal stove that wasnt put in properly and it was half the size of the room.

New front Door

painted the paneling in the other rooms for now.

The work that we are doing this year is:

New kitchen
new bathroom
new windows in diningroom
taking down all the walls in both bedrooms and rebuilding them
new roof
landscaping

Then at the end of the year we are selling it.
I want to be closer to my mom in Babylon and we only moved out here because his daughter lives in Rocky point with her mom, but june of 2007 they are moving to Fl, so no reason to be out in Selden with no family around.

We moved in mid-March 2004:

- replaced outside doors and storm doors

- replaced all windows upstairs

- painted every room, added crown moldings and new floor moldings

- abondoned underground oil tank and installed a larger above ground one

- closed off closet in dining room and made a huge walk-in from the office

- ripped up carpet downstairs and installed laminate hardwood floors

- replaced stove & dishwasher in kitchen

- installed digital therameter

- installed 2 automatic garage door openers

- regrouted and reglazed tile in bathroom

- removed large overgrown shrubs & trees

NEXT:

- new deck in the backyard

- landscaping in the front of the house

- new carpet for stairs and upstairs landing

-Made 2 of the bedrooms into 1 large for the master, built new closet

-gutted and redid Kitchen, knocked down 1 of the walls,

-gutted and redid a bathroom

-repaced all interior and exterior doors

-added reccessed lighting in most rooms, replaced all remaining lighting fixtures

-redid all floors, either hardwood, or replaced carpet or tile

-replaced most of the windows

-replaced screens on sunroom and painted it

-all new blinds

-new paint for whole house

-gutted the den, it had paneling

-new moldings, added crown to some rooms

-upgraded all electric

-upgraded alarm system

-added central air

-new roof

-new landscaping

-took down siding and redid outside of house with stucco

-redid outside stairs with brick


I think that is it!
