What is/was the best first cookbook

My daughter just moved out & when I talk to her she always tells me about how she cooked dinner & I tease her that she needs a cookbook & an apron & she agrees....lol so I wanted to look for a basic, easy cookbook for her. She is 24 & just out on her own.

Does she wants basics? Cooking for Dummies is great - has real explanations about everything and a bunch of good recipes!

The Betty Crocker one - its a red hardcover. My mother has a Betty Crocker one from when she was first married and I've had mine for a few years now and love it!

Re: What is/was the best first cookbook

Oh & just to clarify she needs an easy basic cookbook. Not for big meals but different variety of ways to cook things mostly for just herself.

ETA: I also have a Betty Crocker Cookbook but wasn't sure if it would be too much.

Re: What is/was the best first cookbook

there is a great book called "Where is My Mother now that I need Her" which has basic recipes, laundry tips, etc.

I particularly love my Betty Crocker cook book (red binder) which has a little of everything including the back cover which has "Emergency substitutions"

Shana,
I just looked on Amazon for that book but didn't see it. That is the exact title?

Re: What is/was the best first cookbook

here it is....if you go to Barnesandnoble.com go to cooking, and go to fundamentals and basics and on the left, it subdivides the category and I think it's beginner or beginner basics (something like that) and it brings up all the beginner/basic cookbooks (I saw some for 20 minute meals, etc.)

Also try the discount bookstores (there is one in the Bellport Outlets I believe) and my friend was telling me about one in Medford I think where everything is 50 or 60% off and they can order stuff for you!

I found it on Amazon & ordered that as well as a Betty Crocker for her. I also ordered a Betty Crocker for my niece who is 23 & living on her own & just learning to cook. She also is engaged. Her mom passed away when she was 16. Chat Icon

I got free shipping on the order so I threw in some other things for my DH's b-day next month.

The Betty Crocker one - its a red hardcover. My mother has a Betty Crocker one from when she was first married and I've had mine for a few years now and love it!

I love the Betty Crocker cookbook. It breaks down with pictures & names of all meats, veggies, cheese, eggs, etc. It goes through every cooking stage, storage stage, how to check meat properly when buying (color - smell).
