What is the point of those video tellers at the bank?

What is the point of those video tellers at the bank?
I have seen them in the bank before, but never used on until today.
I was online for a "real" teller and I hear someone saying "Can I help you" I look up and the two tellers are still helping other people.
Finally the lady in line behind me told me that the "video" teller was calling me.
I just don't see the point of sending that bottle thing back and forth, and I can hear her right behind the wall. Why can't she just be in front of me in person?
Someone please enlighten me!

Bank robberies!! The Teacher's FCU near me has it and we were told it was because tellers were being shot during robberies and this is to make sure that they are protected.

TFCU is where I was. I understand that reason, but then why aren't they all like that. There are still tellers out there that could get shot. Just doesn't make sense to put some behind the walls and not others.

Maybe the banks can't afford the technology to make the whole bank like that.

I think that bank was built like that. It would require major renovations for many banks to change over like that. Maybe going forward many of them will be like that.

Right, but what I'm saying is, the new banks that they built with the video tellers still have regular tellers - at the same branch. Just doesn't seem logical to me!
