What is a normal meal for your one year old

I'm trying to figure out sizes and amounts of things for a meal. I'm not sure if he's eating enough.

Please don't give me ounces, because I can't translate that. I know in terms of real things like 1 chicken nugget and 1 baby jar of apple slices. Chat Icon

TIA!!!!!!!!

DS is 21 months... He was eating the same at 12 months.

For breakfast he will have 1 toddler cereal bar and 1 yogurt.

A whole sliced fruit or fruit cup for snack.

Lunch: 1/2 cup of mac & cheese. Sometimes I buy the frozen Earths Best Elmo mac & cheese with Veggies... He will have the whole thing.

1 whole english muffin pizza.

4 mini waffles

1 matzo with cream cheese. 1/2 cup of grapes.

Dinner: will be 2-3 chicken nuggets, or 2-3 turkey meatballs. He will have that with pasta & veggies, or fries... maybe 1/2 cup.

1 hot dog, 1/2 cup beans, 1/2 cup salad.

For lunch she'll usually eat a few slices of turkey or a whole turkey hotdog, then half an avocado or a most of a peach.

For breakfast she'll eat one pancake (about 3-4" inches across) and half a banana.

I just feed her until she starts feeding the dog.

19 months:

Breakfast: 1 reg pancake, waffle or french toast stick.
At times some days he likes to have about 1 cup of Rice Krispies. (Not with the food mentioned above).
1 sippy cup of milk.

Snack..A few cheerios and very very very watered down juice.

Lunch...1 yogurt
Sometimes he'll have his cup of milk here, but, mostly saves it for afternoon "snack".

Snack..Goldfish Crackers (a couple) or cheerios, maybe some mandarin orange slices.

Dinner..UUUuggghhh this is where it's complicated.

Maybe 3 or 4 Chicken nuggets and corn.
He won't even try another veggie.

OR 1 grilled cheese uncrustables

OR 2-3 Fishsticks.

That's it..He is NOT a fan of dinner.
At least 1-2 times a week, I'll do breakfast for dinner.

1 sippy cup of milk offered 1/2 way through or after all his dinner is eaten.

No you're not!!!! My DS eats hardly anythign and daycare even asked how my DS eats at home cuase he hardly eats when he's there. It always says "some" or "a little" next to his lunch on his day sheet. Some examples:

For breakfast he'll eat:
1) A half of a waffle and a half of a jar of Gerber diced apples.

or

2) A quarter of an english muffin with a half cup of bluberries.

or

3) A banana and 2 strawberries cut up.

For lunch:
1) Half of a Yobaby yogurt and 2 strawberries cut up.

or

2) Half of a grilled cheese sandwhich (not including the ends) and a handfull of grapes cut up.

or

2) 1/4 and instant pack of oatmeal and a few berries.

For Dinner:
1) 1 checken nugget and a whole small can of green beans.

or

2) 15 pieces of pasta, 2 bites of chicken and a couple of carrots slices.

or

3) One small meatball, 3 bites of pasta and some peas.

As a snack, sometimes like 3 ritz crackers or 4 small Earths best crackers.

Not very much. DS is in the 4-10% for weight and 25% for height at 17 months now. He's growing and doesn't look starved, so we and the doc aren't worried.

ETA he's always eaten like this, even when he was 12 months. He's not an "eater", he's a "taster" Chat Icon

Benjamin's Meals

Breakfast
1 pancake or waffle
1 cup Yobaby Yogurt
1/4 cup Cheerios or Kix cereal
He will sometimes have a cereal bar instead of the pancake or waffle.

Lunch
1/2 cup pasta and 1/4 cup vegetables
or
1/2 sandwich
1 snack size applesauce or cut up banana/peaches/pineapple
Goldfish crackers

Dinner
Smaller serving of whatever we are having. Usually enough to fill a small bowl or 1/2 of a dessert plate.

UH oh My dd is going to be huge. She eats way more than that.

Breakfast:
A half banana and an egg scrambled and sometimes a few bites of whole wheat bagel too.

OR

A waffle (frozen nutrigrain eggo waffle) and half of banana and some diced fruit.

Lunch:
Yogart and fruit or cheerios

Or
Leftovers from dinner

Snack:
Puffs and slice of am. cheese

Dinner:
Whatever we are eating and plenty of it.

Last night she had half a hamburger, 4 pieces of broccoli (just the florets) half a whote wheat bun, 1 thin slice of watermelon.

3-4 cups of milk a day. She does not like water and I have not allowed her juice.

I'm a little worried about her weight although she is normal right now. I feed her until she feeds the dog, should I restrict her?

Re: What is a normal meal for your one year old

My DS just turned one. I have to say - he is a big eater BUT it is a struggle to get him to eat solids every time - he is SO lazy - he would much prefer purees and now, he is even guzzling more formula - as I am trying to cut it down!

Anyway here is what he usually eats -

Breakfast - Cereal or yo baby - he usually eats 3/4 of the yobaby - he is NOT a fan of the cereal though so maybe two tablespoons - PLUS - fruit - if it is a jar (4oz) if not the pureed equivalent - i mix it in with the yogurt or cereal (i use plain yogurt). I will also give him a handful of fruit chopped up (plums or cantaloupe usually) for him to munch on while i make breakfast.

Lunch and Dinner - varies alot and lunch is usually similar to dinner except more fruit for lunch and more veggies for dinner.- Usually like to include at least a fruit and protein for lunch- and some dairy and some veggies if possible. If he eats eggs - he will eat 1-2 egg yolks PLUS the same amount of fruit as breakfast PLUS about 1/4 cup of cheese cut up PLUS some other cut up foods - avocado or green beans etc. Other times I give him veggie alphabet pasta mixed with veggies - in a broth...like spinach and green beans and carrots - he will eat about 4oz of this depending on his mood and then I give him finger foods. I also make him meat balls - with chicken, turkey or beef but, again, this really varies as he chews this stuff VERY slow. he could also eat about 1/2 sweet potato but not always...

DOn't go by us though b/c it is really a struggle most days to get him to eat enough solid foods for him to not guzzle tons of formula... Chat Icon
