What happened to my sweet, easy-going babygirl??

DD has always been pretty easy going, since she was a newborn until --- now.

Since she turned 2, I swear she was switched with some evil twin.

She has temper tantrums constantly -- and I usually don't even know WHY she is having a tantrum. She screams this high-pitched, glass-shattering scream at the drop of a hat, throws herself on the floor, and is just incredibly moody and unpredictable.

I am ready to tear my hair out.

Any suggestions?? And yes I am willing to read books if they will help!!

Welcome to the terrible 2's! Don't have much advice since I'm going through this myself for the past year now and with DD almost 3 I still have yet to see the light at the end.Chat Icon My only advice is when she gets in these moods put her somewhere safe and give yourself a timeout so you can stay cool, calm and collected, someone ought to be! I totally agree.... if you think 2 is bad... just wait till you have a 3 year old on your hands. 2 is easy!

Yup....i think they are just beginning. It's inevitable I think...but like others said...this too shall pass and on to the 3's, which EVERyone I know says is worse Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I can't imagine!

Start the discipline NOW. That's my advise. Make sure she knows she can NOT get away with any of this...set the rules.

Now that we're back, things are definitely going to change around here.

At least you're not alone!! Chat Icon

She's a woman who wants what she wants.

Don't we ALL stomp our feet and yell that high pitch shrill when we don't get what we want?Chat Icon

Did it the other day when DH came home with the wrong ice cream.

Its not easy.....I really just try to ignore them when they are getting out of control, throwing tantrums and if they don't stop - I do the time out - they usually get the hint eventually.

I think that for Jack the reason he has so many tantrums is because he can't express what he really wants. It's terrible. I get my azz kicked on a daily basis by him! Chat Icon

oh Dear Lord....now i am petrified! does anyone know if 4 is better!?
also wanted to add for the OP that my DD's terrible 2's have kicked in big time too so i know what you're going through! i will tell you though that it was out of control bad about 2 weeks ago and it turned out her molars were coming in! not saying this is the reason but it definitely made it worse!

Re: What happened to my sweet, easy-going babygirl??

Gosh I really hope 4 is better. 2 is tough. Jack is now turning 3 and I must say 3 is definitely more trying because they are deliberately fresh. I'm alittle frightened because I just heard recently that 4 is worse.

All I can say to you is...I perfected the use of timeout while Jack was 2 and I still wanted to rip my hair out!!!!

Re: What happened to my sweet, easy-going babygirl??

For me, 4 wasn't really much better. But i can say now, that DS is 4 3/4...going on 5 in October, he is much better and has a better grasp on his emotions, though it is still no walk in the park!

OK so now I am even more terrified....Chat Icon

She can't express herself much either, her vocabulary is very limited. I was blaming her tantrums on this, but I think it's just an excuse....she really is her evil twin....Chat Icon

Re: What happened to my sweet, easy-going babygirl??

yup, DS is starting with temper tantrums, It's mostly when we are outside though. I get so nervous if we go to the park, or have a playdate b/c I dont want to him to tantrum when we have to leave (that tends to be what brings it on the most or if he's doing something like playing on slide and I try to bring him over to something else or if we have to stop an activity for whatever reason). I am so glad my little guy's not the only one!!
Diana- I was thinking about this for when we come over to...I hope DS takes a good nap on the way over b/c I would feel terrible if he has one in front of you guysChat Icon

Re: What happened to my sweet, easy-going babygirl??

DS is giving me a run for my money lately --- he is soooo stubborn!! When he doesn't want to be bothered he will tell me "no touch me mommy" and now he started saying "no talk mommy" if I say something he doesn't like. And the blood curdling screams when he doesn't get his way drive me crazy!!

I try to discipline him and let him know that he can't get away with that kind of behavior. Problem is my DH gets mad right away and tries to "argue" back or reason with him and I have to remind DH that he is 2, you are wasting your time!
