kind of an impossible question since salaries in different fields vary so much, and starting salaries versus higher-level jobs that require more experience...but i think to own a home it is difficult (buying recently) if you don't make over $100,000 per couple at least.

I think a decent salary on LI these days for you to live comfortably would be a combined salary of 150+. JMO.
Because of the sensitivity lately I have to make this clear-
If anyone makes less and is comfortable that is awesome, I am just giving a thought of what I think would be comfortable, doesnt mean its right, its just a thought.
