What do you think about tote bags that don't have zipper closures?

I am absolutely IN LOVE with a Coach Julia Tote bag, but it has a so called dogleash closure. I had no idea what it was at first but it's just a hook on one side of the bag and a ring on the other and you put one into the other to close the bag. So, basically, unless you put everything into the inside compartment with the zipper, nothing protects whatever is inside of you bag because the opening on top is never fully closed... You get the idea.

Well, I LOVE that bag and I do need a tote bag... However, the fact that it's not a zipper closure is really bothering me... Yet, I keep looking at it on line and salivating

I just wanted to get some honest opinions: would you consider buying a bag like that? Do you own anythign similar already and is it a problem?

I have a canvas bag that doesn't zipper & I use it everyday for work. I do keep a small purse inside it though, with my wallet & a few other things , so I don't have to take the whole thing to lunch. My books& shoes go directly into the bag.

It hasn't been a problem, but I don't know if I would buy an expensive bag without a zipper.

This was something I bought in a pinch & have been using for almost 2 years b/c I can't find anything else.It does get heavy thoguth with the other bag inside.

I also don't like to take it on airplanes, b/c it is open.

My two tote bags do have zippers but I almost always leave them open. I only close them if I'm using the bag as a carryon and putting it through the scanner or if it's raining.

If it was a bag I otherwise loved it wouldnt stop me

nothing (except a high price) stops me from getting a bag i want...at least, not when it comes to design issues....i say go for it!

If it's a bag that I know I'm going to use in a really crowded area on a regular basis (like NYC subways), then it's a deal breaker for me. I've stopped myself from purchasing a few bags that I love the look of because of the lack of zipper.

Most of the bags I own are like that. If they had a zipper I'd probably leave it open so I can easily get something I need. When I want it to be extra secure I carry it on my shoulder so the opening is tucked under my arm.

i need a large zipper compartment inside.

I have a b makowsky tote that just has a snap closure up top, but it has a very large zipper compartment inside. I keep my wallet and camera in there.

It is almost impossible to find a big enough bag with a zipper that doesn't cost bank. I HAVE to have on, since i have an uncanny knack for getting it turned over so things fall out. I ended up having my friend make me one. It is a dealbreaker.

I love it!

I rarely zip my bags when they DO have closures - so I would go for it!!!
