what do you need to open up a savings account for your child?
Just a social security #? are there fees associated with these accounts?
right now, both of my kids have a 529 plan to use for college but I want them to have a savings account that they can use as they want when they are older
we plan to put some money into in for b-days, christmas, etc and for any monetary gifts they recieve

I didn't even give her social, I just used mine. I am not comfortable giving hers out to anyone yet. Thankfully, since my name was on the account with her, I just used mine.
I don't think I needed anything for her. I had a copy of her birth certificate just in case.
