What do you have above your kitchen island?
There used to be a pot rack over our island that the previous owners took with them. I don't want a pot rack, but do I need to put something up there? I was thinking pendant lights would look nice, but there's already recessed lighting over the island so unless we got rid of those lights I think it would be too much. Would it look like something is missing if I don't put anything up there? I only have a before pic with the pot rack still up.

I think pendant lighting would look nice. Home Depot and Lowe's sells kits to switch from recessed to pendant lighting. It looks fairly easy to do.

pot rack. If I didn't have that, I would go with ornamental pendant lighting. I like that look as well.

We have recessed lighting throughout the kitchen ceiling (that you cant see in this pic) and two tiny lights hanging over the island....

There are some really beautiful options out there. I personally love wrought iron pot racks. Here's a link to really pretty island lighting options.....island lighting Image Attachment(s):

I have recessed lighting. My island is right in the center of my kitchen and I also have an atrium in the kitchen. I felt that although the room is big, anything directly over the island would chop up the room. I do have pendant lighting in the atrium.

ooh, thanks! i didn't know this! i'll have to check into it. i like the pendant lights, but didn't want to have to go through patching up holes in the ceiling.
