what do i need to know/'ask about circumcision?
It's my obgyn who performs the circumcision, right? How do I ask him if he's "good at it"? lol
What do I need to know? Ive read on here that a lot of people need to redo them down the road and I'm nervous about that.

what do i need to know/'ask about circumcision?
Our ped does them. He's done 3000 and will come to the hospital. You need to know how to care for it from what I understand. No boy here yet so no first hand experience yet.

No he's just a regular MD but he happens to have specialized training in circumcisions. I live out of NY now but there are also still some mohels around too who will do it whether you want a bris or just a home circumcision too.

I was wondering about that too... I'm catholic lol but I just want the best for him.

DH still isn't 100% convinced he wants to circumcise. It's a really hard decision. We've been discussing it since we found out boy at 12 weeks and I'm 35 weeks tomorrow!
I witnessed a friend's son's circumcision back in May at the home. I actually fed the baby wine off my pinky finger while the mohel was doing his thing so I had a SUPER up-close look!!!! He used a numbing agent (I think lidocaine) and injected the base before he began so the baby was numb where they cut. He used a guillotine method, which is basically a small ring that goes around the head and slices the skin flap off. It took only a few seconds, then he cut around it. It was kinda crazy to be that close up... I'd been to brisses before but never saw it from that point of view.

OMG 
We decided we are not doing it, DH was fine either way but I always knew we would not do it if we ever had a boy, (cultural, religious and personal reasons) As I did more research I was 100% sure it was a no, no way I am letting anyone cut my son like that and too many risks associated with it , not worth it. JMO.

Honestly, I'd seen babies with bad diaper rash in more pain from a change and wipe than this baby was in during his circumcision. It was all of 20 seconds and he just sucked on my finger the whole time. He squirmed a little at first from the numbing agent but his grandfather held him the whole time and he actually started to doze off as the mohel finished. His mom nursed him immediately after and that was it.
I'm not making any calls as far as saying whether to do it or not. We're still not decided. But for that one I experienced so close-up, it was a very quick and evidently not painful experience based on what I saw. Perhaps the mohel was just extremely well-skilled, I don't know. It was a lot less disturbing than I thought it would be.

I knew I wanted my OB to do it because he is a moyel. He couldn't make it to the hospital so we had it done at the office a few days later. I wasn't in the room! It was really quick and he calmed down right after when I gave him a bottle. Changing him was scary at first, but now 3 days later it's fine. Just a glob of Vaseline on gauze on it and close the diaper.

Btw if your OB is not available the next day, the hospital will get whoever is on call. I've never heard of the doc that came to do it so I was glad I had already asked my ob.

Dr Herman at elite women's healthcare. I wish we could have gotten It done and over with in the hospital, but I felt more comfortable having him do it. Thank you!!
