i think that it is your HCG levels. u start out a 0 and everyday that u r pregnant your levels go up - they double every 48 hours or so. thats why they will do a blood test to confirm that you are pregnant.
when i got pregnant the first time through a Reprod. expert - they checked them the first 4 weeks to make sure they were going up as they should.

levels in a blood test that measure the pregnancy hormone hcg.
technically anything over 5 is pregnant
