what age did you give your baby water?
Is there an age you should wait for? I'm going to ask my Dr next week but I was curious. It's so hot out I feel bad! A friend at work said the new rule is not until 12 months?!

I gave a little bit of water in a sippy cup starting around 6 months (not prior to).

Doctors have changed their stance on this and now tell parents to wait to give their kids water. However, we didn't. It didn't make sense to us or to anyone in my family (including a pediatric nurse and two pediatric doctors who hate that other doctors tell patients that). We started giving her water in small increments at about 3 months old. At 20 months, she can do without juice and is a fantastic water drinker and healthy.
Talk to your doctor and see what he/she says and gauge what you feel comfortable doing.

My Dr said not before 6 months.
They are getting hydration from breastmilk/formula- they don't really need water.

i let them start tasting it in a sippy with their meals to associate one with the other at around 6-7 mo...but I bet they only got a few drips in the beginning!

Same here. And she only ok'd it at that point because I brought it up since it was summer and I wondered about hot days. She said it would be ok on hot days if we were going to be outside a lot and no more than an ounce or so because you don't want them filling up on water and not getting the nutrition they need from breast milk/formula.

After 6mo, we offer her water in a straw cup if it is hot out or after we go swimming

We started both kids at around 6 months with 2 oz in a sippy cup. It was more for learning how to use the cup and because it was summer. It wasn't every day, but by 8 or 9 months she drank it at all her meals.

I started offering it to her around 6 months. She would barely get any water though. It was more for practice. Now at almost 11 months she's actually drinking a decent amount of water and I'm offering it to her throughout the day, especially if we're outside on a warm day. But they do get hydration from formula/breastmilk as well.

Our ped told us to start at her 5 month check-up. I always give DD water for her hiccups and anytime the weather is warm. Now at almost 7 months she is obsessed with our water bottles so we give her little sips from them.
