Well, I made the decision about Alex's class
I'm keeping her with the younger class.
I observed the two classrooms - the older and younger classes, and I spoke at length with her current teachers, whom I just adore, and trust implicitly.
Her current teachers said that, while Alex is certainly ready, developmentally, for the next class, they don't believe it will be a good fit with the teacher. They said, and from what I observed, they are correct, that the teacher for the older class is very rigid and strict. She isn't the warm and fuzzy, cuddly type. She's very rigid with her schedule, where the kids sit, what activities they are allowed to do, etc.
Meanwhile, Alex is a little pip and the teacher's pet. Her teachers told me she shadows them, and is always asking to be held and cuddled and showered with attention. She is VERY strong willed and doesn't like to be told that she can only have one cracker instead of two, or that she has to paint instead of playing in the sandbox.
They said, for now, at her age, what's most important is learning in an environment where she's comfortable, grows an appreciation and love for learning, and feels supported so she can gain more independence and confidence. Which, I agree with.
If the time comes where I notice she isn't being challenged enough, then we will address it later on, as she approaches kindergarten.
So, thank you everyone for your input - it really helped me in asking the right questions and making an ultimate decision!

I think based on your description that you made the right choice! Do they keep the same teacher every year or will she have the more strict teacher the following year?

Thats great that you were able to get all that feedback and observation time to make the informed decision. Your daycare sounds like it is run very well!

It definitely sounds like you made the right choice. At this age, our children are truly developing their sense of self. Its better for her to be in a more nurtuting environment than a challenging one. Trust me, those challenges will come
