UPDATED WITH ANOTHER Q-Quick help needed - how to take infant's temp (rectal)
So this is really dumb I know but I've never done it before and don't want to hurt him. I have the thermometer and the little cover - how far up to I put it and should I put vaseline on it? Is it ok to put vaseline up his but? Any tips on how to do this quickly and painlessly? I'm nervous  TIA!
Thanks ladies I took the temp - is a baby's temp different or supposed to be the same as ours? Is 99.1 an elevated temperature? I've never taken it before so have nothing to compare it to. Thank you

Put some A&D ointment on it, lift the legs like you are changing DC's diaper, and just slide it in... DC really wont mind, and it will be very quick - dont worry - it wont go too far in!!!!

I put it to the end of the silver tip on mine with a lil vasiline but becareful-it ah stimulates them if ya know what I mean

That is normal for a rectal temp...at least for my son....i wouldnt worry about it

Ped told us not to worry unless temp is 100.4 and higher.
