updated question about white grape juice when a kid is sick - Do you dilute it with water or give it straight up?
I have to run out for pedialyte. What else can I do?
DS is 14 months & has never been sick before.

Relax.  They won't tell you to do much. You can try Tylenol if he'll keep it down. Generally they don't freak about fevers under 105.
Don't push food, and AVOID milk!!!! DS lived on water and dry cheerios when he had it (he refuses pedialyte). Hang in there! And a luke warm bath to keep the fever down, esp. if he throws up the Tylenol.

Give Tylenol for the fever - hopefully it will help bring it down.
Pedialyte is perfect.... I also have some apple juice on hand in case he rejects it. He needs to stay hydrated so by whatever means.

Do you have light weight footed PJs? I wouldn't put him in fleece if he has a fever.

My kids hate pedialyte. I always give Gatorade or wTered down apple juice.
Give only a few sips every half hour otherwise it will just sit in his tummy and he'll throw it all back up. Just try to keep him hydrated!

thank you so much ladies! I put him in lightweight pjs, gave him tylenol. He took a sip of pedialyte & started rubbing his eyes because he was sleepy.

Don't give apple juice, it makes the diarrehea worse. DS had this a month ago. White grape juice is ok. No dairy. Just let him sip whatever he will drink. No water either. Try ice pops...

Ice pops, tylenol suppositories, light pajamas. That is all you can really do it will pass soon.

pedialyte ice pops are great - my DD refuses to drink pedialyte or juice, but will eat these. hope he feels better soon!

Really?
We always followed BRAT (Banana, Rice, Apple & Toast) to help return our kids back to their normal diet after being ill.
Applesauce is best to help bind but while the child is throwing up apple juice is effective for providing the sugar and electrolytes they lose....or so that was my understanding.

We were told by his pedi and the ER doc that apple juice is used as a last resort. Has something to do with making the diarrehea worse. Apparently applesauce and juice have different reactions..

ok, thanks. I was going to but I know that when I am naseaous, water makes it worse for me.
