Unexplained infertility after 1st DC?

I am baffled, we have been TTC for 6 months now and nothing. In the past i have had no issues getting pregnant, even when i wasn't expecting it. I was off bc for 3 weeks in 2006 because of medicinal reasons and i got pregnant and then again before DD (both M/C) and with DD it only took 2 months. It seems kind of odd that after my nightmare delivery with DD i suddently can't get pregnant and i have been off bc since June. The OB assured me after what happened i would be able to get pregnant again...i just don't it...im nervous we will need IUI, we have horrible insurance with Anthem so i know we will be liable for everything until $3,000 and that's alot for us.

That sounds frustrating, but I think it's normal to take some time for it to work. It took us 13 cycles to get pg with my DS and there was nothing wrong that we know of.

If you are worried, I think you should talk to your doctor about doing some testing.

I know it might take some time but the other 3 times i got pregnant it took 2 cycles or less and now we are on cycle 6 or 7 if AF comes in the next day or two, i just find it odd that after the horrible delivery i had it's taking this long. It's just upsetting...

I'm curious how you and/or the doctors think the delivery may have impacted your fertility? maybe go back to the doctor and let them know and see what they recommend at this point?

I ended up with a severe uterine infection, staph infection in my blood and lungs and post partum heart failure and ended up losing most of my left ovary which left me in ICU for a few days after my c-section, it was a lot of trauma to my body. Im wondering if it caused some damage and might be causing some trouble getting pregnant. My OB wants me to come and see him in February if we aren't pregnant by then, Febraury is just so far away it seems like. He wants to starts Clomid then to help me ovulate but i know im ovulating. OPK's and the ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor tell me that I am ovulating so im not sure if the Clomid will do anything.

I think pregnancy in general changes your body and since you had such a tramatic experience with your first pregnany it could be affecting you now!

if you strongly feel that it is get a second opinion...it could also be that this time around is just taking longer? i hope you get some answers...good luckChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am in the same boat as you. I have gotten pregnant so easily in the past. I SO was not expecting this. We have been TTC since May. I am hoping it will happen in the next few cycles. I was feeling like something might be wrong with me since this is just not how my body was before but my OB was saying that it's always a crap shoot and I just got lucky before. It can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive. If you feel like your fertility was compromised from the infection you had PP, I would raise concerns with your OB.

If you lost most of an ovary, I totally understand you thinking that may have something to do with how long it's taking now. I'd go for a second opinion!

The Clomid can work. My close friend WAS Oing on her own, but did not get pg after a year and her OB put her on Clomid. She got pg her second cycle on it!

Thanks Michelle! That makes me feel a little better, i think if im not pg next month, i will call the OB and ask for the Clomid and discuss what could have happened from the infection i had from DD's delivery and what issues it can cause.
