Unemployment Question
I'm trying to file for unemployment (I got laid off today  ) but there's something on the website that says:
"If you apply for unemployment insurance benefits today, your claim will be effective 12/04/2006. If you have worked or will work four or more days or earn more than $405.00 gross pay between 12/04/2006 - 12/10/2006, you cannot file your claim at this time. You must wait until next Monday, 12/11/2006, in order to file if you are still unemployed. "
Now, the company gave me a severance and the check was dated today. Do I have to wait to file?? There's something else on the website that says if I don't file the same week that I became unemployed than it will take longer to go thru and it will effect the amount that I get. So obviously, I'm confused. 
Can anyone help me out???

yes, that's correct. severance pay does not exclude you from filing, but I assume you got paid thrugh today? if so, file tomorrow first thing.
I am so sorry that you got laid off

Thanks! I think it's on S. Ocean in Pat.... I just found it on the Suffolk website.

sorry you have been laid off...
Just wanted to let you know as a PP said this can ALL be done online. DH is a carpenter so there are instances that he is off a couple of weeks at a time. We haven't done it in awhile, but it is ALL done online now...he even got a FREAKING debit card in the mail instead of a check--with a mastercard logo on it!

Sorry to hear that. You can do it all online. This is my last week of unemployment. They hold it for a few days in my case it was a week.
