Ugh...pediacare question...

So, does anyone give their one year old this when they are sick? Ava has come down with an upper respiratory infection (from what I can tell, her ped. is off todayChat Icon ), and I need to give her something. She's not stuffy in the nose, but her chest is so congested and she's coughing and coughing. It's not a dry cough, either, it's very mucusy. Sorry for the tmi, but I've only given her the Tylenol with the decongestant before, but that's not helping. If you could recommend something, I'd appreciate it! Chat Icon

You can give it to her but will need to get the correct dose from the pediatrician.

I've given anything from Triaminiac (which works well too) to Pedicare. When they're under 2, you need to call your doctor. The dosage is based on the weight of the child.

Hope she's better soon!

I've always given my kids Triaminic - the orange one. My pedi says its fine. At 24 lbs, DD gets about 1/2-3/4 teaspoon if I remember correctly.

Call the doctor to get her checked. It will give you the peace of mind & the answers you need.

Re: Ugh...pediacare question...

You can even try a little chest pt if she's really congested. Cup your hands and gently beat on her back like a galloping horse. We do it all the time to patients with a lot of chest congestions. It helps them to bring the mucous up. And also like the others said give the dr. a call.

Ditto.
Alot of the OTC Pedicares and Triaminics have Phenylephrine in place of Sudafed now and that is not approved in children under the age of 2.

Re: Ugh...pediacare question...

Thanks, girls. I'm going to try that chest pt. I decided to not give her anything for her congestion until she sees the dr. tomorrow. SHe has a fever now, so I just gave her tylenol, hopefully it's just a cold. Thanks againChat Icon

Re: Ugh...pediacare question...

My ped doesn't recommend any of those cold meds. Whenever DS is sick we do humidifier, elevated the mattress, saline drops in the nose and those plug in vapor things. The only thing my ped gives is Robitussin DM for coughs, he feels all the other stuff is unsafe
