Ugh...2nd day at gym and I get pulled out of class b/c Madison won't stop crying....

This was my 2nd day at the gym I was so psyched to join b/c they have good childcare. The 1st day went very well...no problems. Today they pulled me out of spinning class b/c Madison wouldn't stop crying....I don't know what the problem is/was. She was hysterical when I walked in and all the other kids are sitting there calmly playing. Any tips?? Anyone else experience this?

Maybe she's just a bit cranky today. Be patient it will get better for both of you. Remember, she is new to the facility so give her some time.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well, I can tell you that at this age, separation is the WORST!!!! Cailen has difficulty seperating from me at daycare all over again, and he's been there over a year with people he has known practically his whole life!!!!

I would not even attempt the childcare at my gym because I know it would be awful.

The only thing I can think is this - systematically work on this by not going for a whole class. Try 10-15 min increments at a time, and then build up. I know its not ideal, and you wont get much of a workout, but maybe it will give her time to get used to it before you do an hour class....

ITA agree with this.

When Aidan was that age he would cry when I left him, but usually calmed down as soon as I was gone. If I used a machine near the day care and he spotted me... ALL H*LL WOULD BREAK LOOSE.

Just ease her into it...

It could just be separation anxiety like other posters suggested. She is getting used to a new environment so she probably just had a bad day. I would try again tomorrow and see how she does. I went through this with DS. Once he got used to the environment, he was okay.

My DS had days like that. Most of the time he was really good, but there were a few days that they paged me because he wouldn't stop crying. Maybe she just wants Mommy today, and next time she will be fine.

I would do 5 minutes increment and see her. 5 minutes alone, 5 minutes with you, etc. That means you can't do the class but maybe you can do a cardio equipment for a few times. Until she get used to it. I would slowly increase the time alone each time if she is better.
