toddler beds use crib mattresses right?

Well we have finally reached the point where I think the crib has to go. DS is waking up every night between 4-6am screaming his head off to come into our bed. We're usually too tired to fight him so he comes into bed with us, but it's got to stop. We tried letting him CIO last night and he just screamed to come into our bed until he made himself throw up- well not really throw up but caugh up. We didn't even know he had done that until he proceeded to climb out of his crib and walk into our room. So it's time for a change. His crib converts to a full size bed, but I just can't picture him in it, it seems too big. So we're thinking of getting him a toddler bed for the meantime. I don't want to have to buy a twin size mattress and then a full size. Does a toddler bed take a twin of crib mattress?

Yes it does, do you think we should try that first? I was kind of thinking if he got a cool new "big boy bed" that it would be incentive for him to stay in it all night.

We converted DC's cribs to toddler beds (basically just removing one side of the crib). The same mattress stays on.

The fact that the old crib is now changed, and only has 3 sides was enough of a change for DC, and they both enjoyed their new "big kid" beds.
