Re: Today's Oprah

I'm almost coming to the conclusion that the skinny one likes the overweight one that way so she can tease her and be the "pretty one"

I really don't think that at all. I think she truly loves her sister...

It is hard for the person on skinny side as well. It is hard to talk with your sister about the subject, it is hard to relate to them....etc

I would bet she isn't as bad as they bad her out to be....

That situation is just as hard for the skinnier sister as it is for the over weight one

ETA...i really think that show sets people up to look stupid or to prove a point...
i mean come on...who would really do that, if they do it that is, in front of a camera Chat Icon

And she didn't create the "pretty one" role...adults GAVE IT TO HER
Just like the gave the "fat role" to the other

Re: Today's Oprah

Point well-made. I guess I fell into a trap. Something just irked me about the one sister.

Re: Today's Oprah

oh i totally understand...i just feel that it was a little set up that way...

But i do understand the dynamics of that kind of relationship.....
My sister is overweight and i just see the other side of it...
And the consequences of being the "skinny one"

i feel a little hypocritical. I HATE the way everything today has to be soooooooooo PC, yet it was irking me to no end that they kept sayinf "FAT"... i dont know, maybe it was the way they were saying it,,, but it kind of seemed degrading to me the way they were throwing the word around Chat Icon

and yeah, i dont think the skinnier twin was completely at fault, b/c i do- to an extent- belive in the labeling theory, and self fulfilling prophecy b/c ot it... but i do think that she Too needs some help, b/c the feel i got was that the only esteem she had really did stem from being 'better' in that sense than her sister. jmo though Chat Icon

i agree 100%

But that is just a part of it....there are sooo many other issues that stem from being the other one!
Anxiety, anorexia, bulimia, control issues...

and she said she had those too, right?

i really hate to sound cliche in 'blamingi t on the parents',, but just from the little that they said about how their mother treated/referred to them, i think she kind of gave them each their roles, and they both went to extremes with it Chat Icon

very true....and it happens very easily...VERY EASILY

all families have "roles" and it is very easy to fall into them....but when you have that kind of relationship..
fear is a big factor to the skinny one...hence throwing them into an extreme
and low self esteem for the over weigth one throws them into their extreme...

i do think that if the oerweight sister loses weight, its really going to affect their relationship drastically, and i just hope that, in turn, the other one doesnt fall back into those bad habits. Its sad, but i think they both need alot of help.

of course it will ...but not as much as much as most want to believe....

although there is a family dynamic that has them in their roles....each of them wants to break out of it...
It will be difficult for both but ultimately i thin their love for one another is what will sustain their relationship...they won't freak when they aren't in their roles as much as they want you to believe....
