TMI question

I know they say you should abstain for 3 days before BD'ing if you are TTC. But, I've also read that your DH should not go for more than a week without either BD'ng or doing it on his own...for purposes of sperm count/motility, etc.

So, my question is this - we BD'd on Monday (the 26th). I am pretty sure I will get my OPK surge on Sat or Sunday (31st or 1st). Should we wait for my surge even though it might be close to a week of abstaining? There is also the chance I might not get the surge until Monday, the 2nd.

Thanks.

Re: TMI question

Unless your DH has been diagnosed with fertility problems, you should be ok BD'ing everyday. I would say BD tonight if you are worried about waiting too long (although I don't know if I ever read anything about thatChat Icon ) and then do every night the day you get your surge and the next 2-3 nights after. Re: TMI question

I never heard the abstain for 3 days rule.... But - you know me - I am no longer trusting anything i read. I ordered a copy of TCOYF since that comes so highly recommended by so many and i am no longer reading anything on the internet (except here of course!).

Anyway - I have read the same as AP that unless your DH has been diagnosed with issues, you can BD every day.

i've read that stuff too - you don't want to let the sperm sit around and get too old, but you also want to "save up" a little before your most fertile days, etc., etc.

this is obviously just my opinion, to be taken with many grains of salt - but i really don't think that these TTC methods/techniques matter much at all. psychologically they might be helpful, in that they give you a sense of control, but the (brutal) truth in my opinion is that we have very little control over conception. even in a couple of optimal age with no fertility issues, it's still a cr@p shoot.

if you don't have fertility issues, as long as you are consistently, um, "loaded" with sperm you will conceive. if you BD every other day relatively consistently, there is no way you will miss your fertile period. there will always be swimmers lying around in wait, and eventually you will conceive. it just sometimes takes time... which is frustrating, i know

I think we need to make a pact to stop reading things on the internet!!!! We both seem to have this problem!

Very well said!!! i think that's why I have my internet search addiction - because it does make me feel like i have some sort of control. I found a page yesterday though that described how hard it really is to get pregnant. I think that's the only site i am going to go back to, when i am feeling down and having a "why cant I get pregnant?" type of day!

Re: TMI question

I've only ever heard of abstaining if there are fertility problems with the man. I say go to town!!! We didn't abstain.

Re: TMI question

First about internet research. You are probably reading on average, you only have a 25% chance of getting pregnant. You have to remember this is all based on statistics. It doesn't mean you, as an individual has that chance. Think about homeowners insurance. We get charged more because we have 2 large dogs. Would my dogs attack someone? No but statistically there are certain large breeds that have. EVERY time my DH and i have tried to get PG we have. Sometimes only BD'ing two days! So don't let that get you down.

Also if you have no sperm issues you should BD every day leading up to your fertile window for a total of about 5 days. FYI, DH and I had LOTS of sex last week. 4 days in a row, on the 4th day I went to the Dr and got a post coital test. He let me look in the microscope and there were PLENTY of sperm swimming around. TMI I know but HTH!

Re: TMI question

BD away! Yes, the internet has lots of info...but not always accurate OR appropriate for the particular audience receiving it. If neither of you really have any fertility issues, I think the more fun your BDing can be, the better. [It can/will get cumbersome and bittersweet if the only time you do it is with the sole intent of getting pregnant.]
