Tips/gifts for people involved in sale/purchase

Hi all,
We just closed on our home a few weeks ago. We didn't have a buyer's agent, but the seller's agent was REALLY helpful so we bought her a bottle of wine (and she actually bought us a DVD player) which we exchanged at the closing.

I'm not sure - do I get a gift or tip the paralegal? She was also very helpful - but I didn't know if this is customary. I ask, b/c 3 wks later, she's still in touch with me (via e-mail) to see how things are going. I can't tell if she's really nice, or looking for something. Honestly, if it's customary, I'd be more than happy to give her something - but I'm not sure if it's weird.

Thanks!

We didn't tip anyone... Our RA did get us a gift basket which was very thoughtful of her.. of course I felt bad not getting her anything but oh well she made a lot of money off of us.

I don't think there is anything wrong with sending her a token of your appreciation. Maybe a $25 gift xcard or something? Paralegals are the most unappreciated people out there. They do the job ogf many lawyers-I say go for it

P.S. not a paralegalChat Icon

The RA didn't make a dime off of us - she was the homeowner's agent. But she treated us like we were paying her - which is why we bought her the wine, and were shocked when she bought us a DVD player!

if she was the homeowners agent - she got to keep the full 6% commission instead of splitting it with your agent - so she made pleanty of moolah - but that was very sweet of her to get you a DVD player - she seems great!

Re: Tips/gifts for people involved in sale/purchase

Tips are getting out of control. $150 to the title agent? This is the person's job! I never get tips for my job, and I'm sure most of you don't either. My job does involve helping people also, though I would not accept a tip for doing it, since it is my work.

IMO, if your lawyer or realtor did a great job for you, I would give them a gift of some kind, but a modest gift. We are all spending a lot of money and people in these jobs are benefiting from our purchases and sales.

The grocery store/deli tip cans by the register get me also--why should I tip someone for ringing up my purchase?

It's all nuts.
