My son never took a paci. He was tongue tied though. It was a good thing since DD is now addicted to hers and it's a hard habit to break.

DS is 6 weeks and still doesn't really want it. I sometimes push and he will finally take it. It calms him down sooooooooooooo much so I'd be happy if he got hookedChat Icon Chat Icon .

Re: Three weeks old and will not take a paci...

DD was addicted from the start and took any pacifier except soothie. Now DS takes it sometimes, but I always have to hold it in for him most of the time or he lets lose and it falls out. And he'll only take the soothie. I bought 10,000 different kindsChat Icon . I want it most for his cranky hours in the afternoon!! But I have to say it's good at night not to have to get up and put it in all the time! I find when I shake keys it makes him suck it for some reason when he won't take it.

If he's mad, he gets even more mad if I try to put it in!Chat Icon

DD never took one. She was EBF for almost 3 months, so I never wanted her to have one, until she developed colic, then we tried several different pacifiers, hoping they'd calm her, but she never took them. I'm happy that she never took one, I have enough other bad habits I allowed her to do Chat Icon

DS never took one either.
I remember laying in the hopital bed, he was in the bassinet and I see the paci spit right out of his mouth..LOL.
We tried when we got home too, didn't want it.
Kind of happy in a way because it's one less thing that will have to be taken away.

Re: Three weeks old and will not take a paci...

My DS refused to take a paci. We would try and force him to, but he would refuse. However, when he turned 6 months, he started taking to it and now he does. It might take her a while to get used to it. He would only take Avent

DD is three weeks old and really doesn't take her pacifier...only for small periods at a time...honestly I don't mind at all.

It's one less thing you have to worry about getting rid of later, so I'd say yes. Many babies can self soothe without one.

But given my thumb sucker, I'd take a pacifier addict anyday.
