Those with Empire NYSHIP (NOT HMO)
Do you know if you need to have a referral to go see an RE or if you can just "try" to get an appointment without your PHCP's referral?

I think we have the same insurance. It's so confusing b/c there are so many different versions of it. For me, if I go to a Center of Excellence, which my RE is, then I just go w/o referrals. I actually can go to any specialist without a referral.

do you mean the Empire government plan?
If so, you have to call and get an infertility case number from the insurance and then you can go without a referral but you have to notify the insurance and they will explain the benifits and tell you what the centers of excellence are. You must go to one of them though or you are responisble for 30%. Otherewise is totally covered.. not even a copay.
