Those who hyphenated last name or kept maiden name

Is your DH bugging you about taking his name now that a baby is on the way?

I hyphenated and DH has always seemed fine with it but now that we are having a baby he has made some comments about us all having the same name. He has tried to guilt me into it saying that it will be confusing for the child.


Anyone else dealing with this?

I hyphenated, but the baby will just have DH's last name. I never wanted to give a baby our long hyphenated name. He suggested giving the baby my maiden name for a middle, but I want him/her to have a more tradtional middle name.

I can't see how it's confusing- it's easy enough to explain.

I kept my maiden name.... DH always has been cool about it. Although last night, I realized that the baby probably will be referred to as "Baby My Maiden Name" in the nursery at the hospital. The baby WILL have DH's last name, ultimately.

I hyphenated my name as well and it doesn't bother DH one bit - he's from Italy and there the women don't even change their last name - they keep their last name. I decided to hyphenate but my child will take on only his last name - we both have long last names so I would never torture my child with that! LOL

Our baby will also have only DH's last night, but someone he worked with used her maiden name until they had a child and then changed to her husband's name.

I guess he is thinking that teacher's will call me Mrs. F. and not Mrs. R-F.

I'm hyphenated and there is no problem with the kiddy having daddys last night, even with us travelling on different passports.

I would type more, but a stench is emanating from my sons behind and I think it needs attending to right away.

I kept my name and our baby will have DH's last name.

A friend of mine hyphenated and just goes by DH's last name socially - except for legal reasons) I think it just became easier to do it that way when the kids were born.
