Those who have received Parent Training...

we have our first session tomorrow night.

What types of things do you do in parent training? Just wondering so I can set the goals that I want to achieve.

TIA!

I do parent training - let me give you some pointers:

A good parent trainer should ask you about your child, and help identify areas that you feel you need guidance in to address -

language
functioning in the home and community
play and social skills
behavior issues

The PT should also keep into consideration what your lifestyle is like and try and identify the best strategies that fit for you so they ca be consistently implemented.

Also - try to pick 3-5 things at a time to actually address, and try not to jump around from week to week unless an issue comes up that has to be addressed ASAP - you should list and prioritize together, and come up with a game plan that will be followed and discussed subsequent parent trainings.

Any questions, you can FM me anytime!

Re: Those who have received Parent Training...

Thanks Liza.

Fortunately she is his normal DI therapist too so she know him very well. And she and I speak many times during the week. So I think we can really hit the ground running tomorrow.

Just wanted to get some ideas on specific things we can do. The only thing I can think of is the proper use and technique of the time-out. Other than that I don't know. Any ideas?

We are on a small hiatus but we had it for about 8 months and will start again this month after taking the summer off...

We go over everything and anything.

Discipline/Time out etc
Sleeping issues
Eating issues/meal ideas
Fears ( his)
Sharing
Learning issues
Adjustments to new things
School adjusting
schedules
Safety

Trying to think of other things....
