Me too! I tend to pee a LOT! I can't even make it through a 90 minute movie- much less a long flight!

it's actually not that strange. In Europe, many "public" restrooms come at a price. most of them have a slot machine type thing and a turnstile. you pay, then pass through.
it's usually no more than a dollar.
some places even have public showers, for just a few dollars more.
they are usually pretty clean, at least from my experience. the $$ goes towards keeping it that way.

This is Ryanair - which is like super super cheap, like we're going to Spain this weekend and we're paying about $30 round trip with taxes, etc included.
The airfare is really cheap, but they charge you for everything - to check in at the airport instead of online, for food and drink, to check your luggage, etc.
DH thinks the toilet story is just a publicity stunt - every article ends with the same quote: "we're constantly looking for ways to lower the cost of air travel" I'm just hoping that doesnt' include skipping some security and safety checks!

I was just gonna say this. When I was in Belgium -- any public restroom was about $0.35 Euro -- and all the bathrooms were pretty clean. At first I was annoyed I had to fork over some change when we were out and about, but then I realized, it wasn't such a bad price to pay considering it kept the bathrooms clean.
But not sure how I feel about on a plane--where we are already being charged so much to fly and now an extra $$ to pee. booo!

A spokesman said the airline had considered the fee as a possible source of extra revenue since passengers had the option of not using the toilet on board
And how do they propose I opt to not use the toilet? Will they let me open a window?
I think someone is just trying to either get attention, or make a joke. I don't see how you can charge a captive audience for basics of nature..... the risks of lawsuits are astronomical....

While I agree with you, Europeans have less of a tendency to sue. And Ryanair doesn't fly long-haul either. Longest flight time is under about 3 hours - so you could "opt" not to pee on the plane!

For those of us who get motion sick (dramamine and the like don't always work) rooting around for change is not always and option and will probably result in embarrassing and gross accidents.
I hate to think of what other ways they come up with to save a buck!!!
