Thinking of buying a house in Great Neck....
My cousin lives right off of Lakeville Rd. How is the neighborhood over there? Are the houses cheap?

Great area, location and love the shops on the main road. Houses are not very affordable but you can find reasonably priced condos/co-ops.

Not affordable, in my opinion. I grew up in Great Neck, and although it's a nice town and good schools, I really had an awful experience with the snobbery.
My parents sold their house in the Thomaston Village part of Great Neck about a year ago - not a particularly grand house at all, and they sold it for over a million.

I know someone who lives over there. Spent over 500,000 4 years ago and it needs total work, in and out.
Not cheap at all. I say you are looking at 500+ for a fixer upper, 600+ for something more finished.

I just did a quick search on mlsli.com the cheapest house (I used my parameters- at least 3 beds and 2 baths) came in at $539,000...and looks like it needs alot of work

I live in Great Neck and yes it's far from cheap. We just bought a new place (co-op) and got a great price b/c of the work that needed to be done the apt.
But it's close to the city and we don't have kids so we don't have to deal w/ the schools, etc.

Also want to add, I have another set of friends in Great Neck over by Thomaston, and they paid high 600's about 5 years ago. Maybe even low 700s.
Very expensive, and great school district if you get Herricks.
