The Office...in case you're wondering
A friend of a very good friend of mine (Tom) is the (one of) Executive Producer for The Office.
While chatting with him, I was curious as to how he came to the names of the characters...and if they were based on anyone in 'real life.'
Turns out two of the characters attended grammar school with my friend (Tom) and they kept in touch through HS / College.
Just a few minutes ago, I was sitting at Tom's desk and an email pops up from Jim Halpert! I thought it was a joke...and a few minutes later - we were off emailing Andrew Bernard!
So yeah...not that exciting, but it was for me!

I went to HS with the creator of the Family Guy, and the Griffin family was named/modeled on someone else who taught and went to our HS! They actually sued the creator for defamation.

I used to work on the show Spin City, and one of the main characters (Randall Winston - the mayor) was named after one of the producer's Randall Winston...
