I don't have any experience with this yet but I would say that people probably treat those car seats like they do a rental car, poorly.
A carseat is supposed to be disposed of if a car is in an accident over 5 miles an hour. You never can be too sure.

I rented from a place in Hawaii and it was great
Sure it wasn't sparkly new but not overly used.
I'd do it again in a snap!
