Texting While Driving - What would you do?

I am currently 9 months pregnant, tomorrow is my last day at work. My doctor doesn't want me driving so a co-worker of mine offered to take me in the morning and bring me home which is very thoughtful. Well, yesterday the entire drive home he was texting while driving.

Now I remember reading a post on here today from an LIF girl stating her sister's best friend died tragically which was due to the driver text messaging.

I know not only is my life in danger but my unborn child's life is as well. If it was just one time I can understand but it was the entire ride home which is a good 45 minutes, while driving on the expressway!

I know he is kind enough to give me a ride but I don't feel safe. I want to say something but how do I say something in a nice way? Chat Icon

I would just say something. Today's your last day, let him text and put himself in danger tomorrow when he's alone. NOT when me and my unborn child are in the car.

Re: Texting While Driving - What would you do?

that is so scary!

you should totally be like "you know i saw a story on a message board about a girl who was killed while text messaging and it made me think of you - i worry that you could get yourself hurt if you don't try and break that habit" or something like that -- that way, it won't come off as you telling them that what they are doing is outrageous - which it IS! but then you can say -- or at least, could you maybe not do it while i'm in the car? only b/c reading about that story today really got me thinking and worrying.

i would try that! HTH!

I don't understand this. I have sent a quick text while at a red light or in bumper to bumper traffic. Is he actually texting when the car is MOVING?

ETA: Not only is it DANGEROUS it is also incredibly RUDE!

I would say "I heard about someone getting into a really bad accident while texting...you really need to be careful" - if he can't take that hint then I would say "Do you mind not doing it while I'm in the car"

I would do the same thing.

I would say..."I'm trying not to be overly paranoid - but I worried the whole way home yesterday when you were text messaging & driving. I know a girl that died that way."

That way...he knows you're worried, you're not telling him what to do (assuming he's going to take the huge hint), it looks like you're concerned for his safety too.

I can understand if we were at a stand still like you mentioned, a red light, stop sign..etc. but it is being done when the car is actually moving, at a pretty fast speed no less.

Thank you all so much! I will definitely say something to him tonight. It's very scary being put in that situation.

Re: Texting While Driving - What would you do?

I would tell him I'm a really bad passenger and his texting while driving makes me white knuckle nervous Chat Icon That way it would be blaming it on myself. I know I'm a bad passenger, I get nervous being the passenger with GOOD drivers, I would probably have a panic attack if someone were texting while driving with me in the car.

It's funny you mention this, I actually tried that yesterday but he was so into his texting that he was just giving me yes and no answers as if he wasn't paying attention to what I had to say.

No way, say something immediately. Just because he is doing you a favor does NOT mean that he can put your life in danger.

Your absolutely right! If he does it again I am definitely going to say something.
