Tennis Lessons in Queens/Manhattan

I've never played tennis before but I really want to take lessons.

Anyone know of a good place in either Manhattan or Queens that offers reasonably priced tennis lessons? I would prefer some sort of group lessons or class.

I have done a few Google searches, but most of what I found was very expensive. I don't want to pay a fortune in case I don't like it!

I used to take lessons at Queens College when I lived in Forest Hills a few years ago - they were group lessons and pretty good. I also took lessons at Flushing Meadows which were good groups also - at the Nat'l Tennis Center (you can pretend you are Chris Evert in the locker room haha!).

I don't have the #'s, but you can find them easily enough online..

Good luck & have fun!

I've taken lessons at National Tennis Center of the USTA (where they have the US Open). It's right off the 7 train and they have lots of parking too.

The only down side is that the next session doesn't start until after the US Open in late Sept. But the instructors are great, classes are small and the price is very reasonable.

Edited to add link. Scroll to the bottom for info for the current session; it'll give you an idea of how much and other info.

Re: Tennis Lessons in Queens/Manhattan

My sister's boyfriend is a tennis instructor. He lives in Queens. If you want me to ask him if he would do private lessons, let me know. He is a kid (21) but he is really really good so he may not charge as much as a pro with tons of experience. He teaches at a Westchester tennis club too.
