Re: Tell me about Sandles...St lucia,Jamaica, bahamas?

We went to the Sandals Resort in the Bahamas...I think the Royal Bahamian (at the time we went there was only 1 and now there are two....we stayed at the one without the golf course).

We loved it. It had its own private island we could take the ferry to and lounged out on the sand and there was food over there. One side is rocky and the other side is smooth. We were upgraded (free) to a suite, so we got room service for breakfast once or twice. DH loved the restaurants as we tried them all - I especially loved the English pub one.

It rained sporadically while we were there, but there was plenty to do indoors as well. One night there was an outdoor BBQ on the beach and the food was grilled over an open bonfire and tasted so good!

We spent two days off the resort - one trip to Atlantis to see the aquarium and resort. The other day was to the cove where we swam with dolphins. The airport was easy to get to and the resort was waiting for us when we arrived.

As for time to go - we went in March (actually we left on St. Patrick's Day to go)and it was warm down there (80s during day; 60-70 at night). Depends on what you like. They stated that the weather in the Bahamas is very similar to that of southern FL at the same time, so keep that in mind.

Keep in mind that Sandals is all-inclusive, adult only. The Bahamas one we stayed at had a number of English guests while we were there - they were escaping winter in England, and we were some of the younger people there. It is a little pricey, but well worth it in our experience.

If you want something a little different to look at, for my DHs 30th birthday, I took him to an Excellence resort in Punta Cana that was adult-only and all-inclusive and much cheaper than Sandals by a couple grand.

DH and I went to Sandals Antigua for our HM 6 years ago and hated it.
Will never set foot on any Sandals again.

Secrets and Excellence resorts are great, adult only.

We honeymooned at Sandals St Lucia Regency/La Toc 6 years ago and had the exact same feeling! Luxury included my you know what! Service wasn't just poor, it was non-existant. And my DH and I are very laid back, easy to please people.

I've been to Sandals Grande St. Lucia - One time HM (Jan) and then a year later (November) and Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica this past January and I loved both but I literally cried when I left Whitehouse. Great food, helpful staff, so relaxing. The weather in January was a bit windy but still plenty hot. I go back in a minute. The new resort in Grenada looks amazing. Jan at Island Shores in Travel in Massapequa has booked each of our trips and usually gets us good prices.

We stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian for our honeymoon and LOVED it! We had an amazing time, service was great, no complaints. This was a while back though. Summer 2007.

We stayed at Sandals in St. Lucia (Grande) in October 06 for our honeymoon and loved it! Had a great time just relaxing. We are very laid back on vacation also and do not join activities so we just lounged at the quieter pools/beach.

I've never stayed in Sandals (or been to St. Lucia), but Jamaica sounds like exactly the type of place you are looking for. The resorts were more island-y than opulant and the atmosphere was just so laid back. Everything was "no problem man!"

ETA: We stayed at Couples Swept Away- also an adults only resort.

ETAA: We went in September. Someone we went with was PISSED because the forecast said rain everyday for the week we were there. It did rain everyday- for about 10 minutes. And the rain was so soft and warm that we didn't even get out of the water, just covered our drinks. Chat Icon We asked a lot of the workers and they said that's typical of the "rainy season" in Jamaica.

We've been to Sandals three times so far:

> Sandals Ocho Rios in Jamaica - went in December, it was super quiet. Food was delicious, and the whole resort was super calm, two different "beach" areas - multiple pools, etc. We loved it. If you can, get a beachside room, totally worth it.

> Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica - went in February, great weather, super quiet, we loved it. The beach was really nice too overall. This one I think was the quietest of them all - all the rooms face the beach, really really enjoyed our time here.

> Sandals Grande in St. Lucia - We went in beginning of May for our honeymoon a few years back. Seemed like everyone else was on their honeymoon, so it was a bit more noisey and for the first time in many many years, it rained, but we still loved it and enjoyed pool/jacuzzi.

We loved ALL of them - but think Jamaica ones are our favorites. I loved the staff at both also and would totally go back again. Keep in mind all of them are about 1-1.5 hrs drive from airport (Sandals provides transportation) - but some people mind it, we didn't at all, it was nice to see surrounding areas.

I keep hearing good things about sandles whitehouse...the reviews are amazing...was there any nightlife? We are very mellow but one night could be nice hanging out with other people...

We stayed in sandals in the Bahamas about 2003. It was just ok. I said I was pretty much done with sandals after thatnnitmwas expensive and we thought the food was terrible.
Like I said it was just ok. Not horrendous but not amazing by any means.

The reports of sand fleas freaked me out too but when we went I didn't get one bit. I think they keep on to of spraying for them but some people are more sensitive to bites. Just bring bug spray and you'll be fine.

They were in the sand at Antigua and jelly fish in the water.
The resort was sprayed at dusk for chiggers and mosquitoes, but there is nothing that can be done for sand fleas.
No signs were posted for the jellyfish. Found out when both my legs were badly stung.
Stayed in the pool after that.

We went for our hm and had no issues with sand fleas or jellyfish. I remember one of the small pools had tons of flies which was gross but the newer Mediterranean side and the main pool was beautiful. We were upgraded to a gorgeous sweet with a nice balcony and had a great time. We definitely had some issues...the service and food were okay, there was one day we couldn't do much bc they were doing aerial shots of the resort and wanted everything to look perfect, there wasn't much nightlife. We still had an amazing time bc we're the type to make the most of things and at the time I would have gone back in a heartbeat. Now, I think I'd rather try out other all inclusives if I get the chance.

As a travel agent and Sandals customer, I would recommend it above any beyond any All inclusive. I went for my own honeymoon. I would highly recommend St Lucia, because of the stay at 1, play at all feature.

If you had a bad experience please complain to them and let them know. I only had one client complain, and not only did they get a free stay, but they corrected any issues immediately. Although you may not want to return, there are things they can do to make it awesome for you.
We had a slow service experience in one restaurant once, but other than that, no complaints.
