talk to me about potty-training

DS just turned 3 at the end of June. He has global developmental delays - no specific diagnosis, although I definitely feel there is some sensory processing and attention deficit things going on combined with his speech delay and low tone.

How to start training? What has worked for all of you? Pediatrician said I don't have to worry about trying right now, but in some ways I feel he is ready as he will sometimes tell me, "Change me." However, other times he will deny he is wet or dirty. Sometimes he wants to sit on the potty and other times he runs away. He still wakes up in the morning with a full overnight diaper (pee). Speech (more processing and formulating what he wants to say more than actual words) is limited and he can be very perseverative and stubborn.

ETA: I just had twins in April, I am now home full-time and so he no longer goes to daycare (he loved it there)... so perhaps this is could be too much change right now?

Thoughts? TIA....

My DS will be 3 in Sept. We bought a potty and he has asked to sit on it but doesn't do anything else. He's too fidgety to get anything accomplished. He has to have a collection of things by the potty. He doesn't really tell me when he needs a diaper change. But he does ask to go potty. When he asks, we do. I'm just taking it day by day and we'll see what happens. His teacher says that he is on the right track.

I have concerns about this as well. My DS is almost 23 months but doesn't communicate at all. Doesn't even point so it's non verbal too. I am hoping his therapy will help him to communicate by the time he is nearing 3 so I can try to train him. For now though there is no way I can start.

My son will be 4 this sept . Still on diapers. Funny thing is he has excellent bowel control.. Will not poop unless he is at home..never goes in school . He will roam around without clothes occasionally but if he feels it coming he will bring a diaper to us...I think it's a control issue for him and whenever I try to put him on the potty he cries ..maybe scared even.. He is non verbal and has very less receptive skills..can't understand .. So we are hoping he will try it when he is ready...

On another note my friends son who is the same age is just potty trained and he is neurotypical..
