Taking the baby out for the first time...

How old is/did everyone wait to take the baby out to restaurants, stores, etc. I can't seem to remember what I did with Caiden. Of course I have to wait until Connor's cold goes away because he's still sick. We have to take him in the car today to go get some things, but I'm going to have DH wait in the car with him. Any thoughts?

I'm going nuts being in the house for these past 2 weeks. Well, 1.5 weeks the other 5 days was spent in the hospital. I went for a walk with the baby and Caiden which was WONDERFUL, but I really NEED to go out!!! Chat Icon Thanks!

Re: Taking the baby out for the first time...

What about taking the baby to see people at the daycare that my son goes to. I'm close to the baby teacher there and others, and I want to bring the baby to my office to see everyone. Of course I want to wait until his cold is gone, but do you think it would be ok to take him there before the 6-8 week mark? Thanks again! I know the daycare is a very dangerous place considering the germs, since that's where my son brought the cold germs home from. I just thought I could bring the baby in there at naptime when all the kids are sleeping and just see the teachers/owners?

I wouldn't risk it before then since daycare centers are a germ fest!

My doctor said the same thing. Not only did he say not to take him out for 6-8 weeks but he said he didn't want a lot people touching him or being near him. He was like "tell people not to come right away" Yeah right Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Tell that to an Italian family. My son was born on a Sunday Morning at 2:41 am and later that day we had mobs of people come and visit...Chat Icon

We take him for little walks around the block though which the doctor said was ok. He also said taking him next door to my mom's house was ok too.

My dr said no enclosed public places for 2 months... walks were ok to do from day 1, the fresh air is good for them.

I walked her around the day after I came home from teh hospital- around 6 days. I took her for walks every day. I took her to a restaurant at about 4-5 weeks. I breastfed so I was confident she had some antibodies from me. The doctor told me that as long as no one sneezed on her or put their fingers in her mouth, she'll be fine.

However, I woudl not take her to a daycare. There are so many germs there and kids could easily sneeze on her or touch her mouth or nose.

I started taking DD out at 5 days old. We went to meet a friend for lunch, went and walked around town, etc. Depends on how you feel. My thought was it is no different going out in public then having 30 people come through my house to see her.

DS is going to be 4 weeks old on Wednesday. I've been taking him for walks, but I think I'm going to take him "out" this week. I might go to the mall and out to lunch with my mom and sister. I don't want to wait 8 weeks! Chat Icon
