Taking days and feeling guilty

I know I'm allowed sick days, but I sometimes feel guilty taking off too many days.
I took a sick Wednesday for the baby. Got a call from daycare b.c he had a fever. Took him to the Ped and he had an ear infection. My dad watched the baby yesterday and I took my toddler to daycare

This morning DH woke up feeling sick. He asked me to take the day off. I am, but just hate using it for him... No offense. Lol
The boys don't go to daycare Fridays b.c my parents watch them, but DH didn't want them here while he's sick upstairs.
I'm also taking a half day next week for my nephew's Bris and for Friday for my toddlers evaluation with his EI caseworker.

IMO you are taking days for your family and family comes first. Don't feel guilty.

I wouldn't take the day to stay with your husband. You need to keep in the good graces of your employer for when you really need to take them.

I have 3 in daycare and the first years are so hard because they are little germ factories.

Ugh! I didn't want to, but I couldn't leave the boys home with him and my parents were sleeping. They usually don't come till later. Plus DH wants me to take him to the doc's so my parents will watch the boys.

I hear ya!

I took Tuesday for son. Left Wednesday early because daycare called me, and took yesterday for him.

I feel bad but like I told my husband yesterday, " it's not like Im saving lives at work, more important to be home with my baby when he needs me."

Makes me nervous to burn 2 days already when it's only the 4th work day of the year though

Re: Taking days and feeling guilty

I definitly would not feel guilty. Family first.

My job knows this and my boss is all for family first. They know I do my job well and that I can't do it if i'm worrying about my family. So i always take the time off needed to help take care of my family.

That being said, depending on how sick your DH is would be my determining factor in taking off to take care of him. if he was so sick that he had to go to the dr and could not drive himself I would defintily take off to drive him. If it was a cold or an ear infection where he would rest and could safely get himself to the dr if needed i would drop my kids off at the grandparents house or daycare and go to work.

I agree. My DH has driven to the hospital w/ a broken nose himself, so I can't imagine an illness where he needed you to drive him unless it was surgery, but I know the man cold can be deadly. Chat Icon

DH and I split the sick days for DS, because it would be too much. My job is understanding, but I think they are because I don't abuse it. Generally, if he is sick Tues or Thurs I take off, DH does Mon or Weds, and my MIL can do one other sick day if needed.

Do I feel guilty when I take a sick day? No

Would I take a sick day because DH was sick? No way. To me that's a waste of a sick day.

In your situation, I would have waited for the grandparents to come over and then head to work. Or would have asked them to come over earlier.

Re: Taking days and feeling guilty

I took a sick day today because ds1 has a respiratory infection and dh has a stomach Virus. Ds2 is w my dad. He couldn't handle both boys yesterday because ds1 is so clingy when sick. With dh and his virus I don't want him anywhere near the boys. So I called out for my son but also because dh can't watch him. If he wasn't sick he would have used a sick day. Unfortunately I won't get paid for today but not a big deal. I don't want my son with a stomach virus!

And no I definitely don't feel guilty. I let people know of my files that have a deadline for monday so someone can work on them.

I never really had to take a sick day for myself, and when I did i'd feel guilty. I dont feel guilty calling in for my DD. DH and I generally take turns so its fair. Why did you call in for your DH? That I can't see doing unless there was something extreme.
