Summer vacation location ideas you can drive to? Anyone?
Can anyone recommend a kid-friendly place for a weeklong rental during the summer, somewhere with a pool or lake and maybe some local attractions? We are not interested in the Hamptons or Jersey Shore, but would go to Upstate NY, Pennsylvania, etc.

Camelback, Tannersville, PA!! It turns into a waterpark and there are antique stores, the outlets, decent restaurants, etc...

lake george area (we stayed at Schroon lake)
we stayed at a lake house owned by a B&B, you can fit your whole family there. my kids had a blast (2 girls .. then 2 & 3)
fishing, kayaking, row boat, canoe, all this and lake george too.. food can be expensive due to height in season.

Lake George. I went every summer from when I was 6 - 16. And now go with DH & DD. Very kid friendly. We stay at Sufside on the Lake. It has a private beach and it's walking distance to town. HTH
