Strange request from my boss... I dont know what I should do!
I just got a Jury Duty summons in the mail stating that I have to call on March 25th to find out where & when to report... bla bla bla... you know how it works.
Well... This morning, I scanned the Jury Duty summons I received & e-mailed my boss telling him that I will be pending Jury Duty.
I thought he was going to reply with something like... "Sure.. thank you for informing me", or something like that. Instead he writes:
"can you postpone it"?
I really dont know what to say to this How would you reply?

I think this is a great response.
Either way save that response from him. I have a feeling it might come in handy later.

You are probably right- You know, when I told him I was pregnant, he didn't seem thrilled at all. All he said was "Are you coming back?" once I said yes, he then said Well... congrats then.
I bet your right.

I'd bet good money this is what it is. I'd say that you can't because you already have (so he can't question you) and then leave it at that.

He probably asked to postpone because he knows you'll be out on maternity leave, and wants you working as much as you possibly could.
FYI - if you wanted/needed, I believe you're allowed to postpone it once. Otherwise, just let him know that you can't postpone.

If you already postponed once, doesn't it clearly say something on the notice like "must report" or "already postponed".
Since she already scanned it and sent it to her boss, she cannot use this as an excuse unless he is totally clueless.

Honestly I would just tell him you aren't postponing it because what happens if you get called a second time during a period where you are busy and can't report. Why should you have to bear that burden?
Let him bring up the "well won't you be on maternity by then" excuse. If he does this, I am sure he is breaking some labor or discrimination law.

Very good point! Serioulsy... I think this is insane. I still haven't responded to his e-mail. I think I'm just going to tell him that I would rather not postpone it but if it is imperative that he needs me in the office, I will do so.

i would not do this either - no boss really has the right to ask you to postpone jury duty. just tell him that you don't have a choice in the matter and you will get as much work accomplished before that date as possible.

I didn't even realize you were PG before. That's a perfect reason to NOT postpone. I don't know how long it is before they can call you again, but what if it is when you are about to give birth?

If you can postpone it & want to, then do it. You can try to pick a date AFTER you come back from leave.
If you postpone until your maternity leave, if it's during the disability period, you have an exemption. You are medically disabled. During the FMLA period afterwards, you may also be exempt.
I would go. I had jury duty at 7.5 months pregnant. I was there for a day & hit the Motherhood outlets.

I would just tell him you've already postponed once before and have to report...
He shouldn't even be asking you to postpone unless you have some huge responsibility at work that you of course would know about it and would have postponed anyway!!

I have been asked to postpone Jury Duty twice by my boss. It's easy to do. Call and let the clerk know that you will not be able to make it the date stated on the Summons. They will more than likely ask you to put it in writing and expect to get another summons within 6 months.
I finally fulfilled my service yesterday. I went to federal in CI and thankfully my name wasn't picked, so I should be off the hook now for a couple of years.
