STAR program question
If I applied for the STAR program this year (yes, I've owned this house for almost 9 years and JUST filed...bad me) When does it go into affect, and how much of a % do you usually save??

When did you apply this year?
If you applied before the deadline for this year (March 1st typically), it will go into effect 1/1/09
If you applied after the deadline (typically March 1st), it will go in affect 1/1/10
You will save typically 1000 on avg which will save you basically 100 bucks a month on taxes

I live in the Town of Hempstead and I filed before the 12/31 deadline. I just got a letter back today saying it was approved and it will go towards my 10/08 taxes.

i filed in dec of 06 and still havent' gotten anything...town of brookhaven..anyone know?

If you applied 12/2006, then STAR should have been applied to your 12/2007 tax bill. If it wasn't, then you should call the Assessor's Office at Town Hall in Farmingville and ask them to look up your house record, and see that
1. they received your STAR application,
2. if they did, then did they apply it to your tax bill?
3. If not, then why didn't they?

The Town Hall for the Town of Brookhaven is in Farmingville (sorry for my mistype before!). They have a web site. I think it's www.brookhaven.org or .gov. The phone numbers for the offices are listed there. Office hours are 9-4:30pm.

actually i looked over my property tax statment and it says the star was applied, but it doesn't show where the intial amount was and the discount. does anyone know how to read these statements?
