Spinoff...working moms who have family watching DC
Do you pay those family members? I'm just curious, because I'm thinking of going back to work part-time and I'm not sure what to do. I'd rather have family watching, especially since we really can't afford day care.

If you saw my post, you know my mom, my MIL and my cousin watch her different days.
I do not pay my mom or my MIL. We never even discussed money and my mom even watches kids at her house for pay.
I do pay my cousin. She too watches children for a living, but I didn't think it was fair to expect she'd do it for free for me like the grandmas! Katherine only goes to her 1x a week--$40/day.

I do pay my best friend. I pay her $150 a week. She watches him from anywhere from one day - 5 days.

My mom watches my twins - I begged her to retire from her job so that she could do it. I pay her $300 a week.
She also watches my 8 year old after school. I love that she watches them for me - I'd be paying a stranger the same amount or more, so for me this works.

I work 3 days a week and my mom and MIL watch DD. I don't pay either one of them.

I do not pay my family. They were insulted when I even offered.
I do give them all the formula, diapers, wipes, etc.

We pay my mom $10 an hour and she watches Miranda 4 hours a day 3 days a week. If my mom didnt' need the money to make ends meet I know she wouldn't take it but I am glad that she is watching her and not a stranger and I am glad to help her out too.

i do not [ay Mom or MIL - they each wathe her 2 days a week. They wouldn't take $ if I offered.
I do give them all the formula, diapers, wipes, etc. And we were extra nice at Christmas

I don't pay my Mom, but now that she is in Florida for the winter, my SIL is watching him and we do pay her. I don't mind at all. I think watching Ryan all day is hard work and she deserves it!

ditto. She will not take any $$$ from us but we have bought her GC to spas and also paid for her to come on a cruise vacation with us in June.

My mom and MIL each watch Luca 2 afternoons a week and we don't pay them. But like other people said, I bring everything they need for him. I wouldn't expect them to have to sopend their money on diapers or wipes.

My mom used to watch my son when I worked and I didn't pay her. I think she would've been really insulted, but if it was a relative like an aunt I would've offered.

My mom watches Ryan and she would never take a dime from me. She doesnt even let me buy diapers or food for him! 
My mom was not working so it worked out perfectly, but if she was and stopped or cut her hours I would definitely compensate her.
