Spinoff to newborn feeding

I was just wondering if anyone else has had been in this situation. Any advice or encouragement is appreciated.

Tyler isn't really on a schedule yet it seems. The average is every 2-3 hrs for 30 min, but he has a few times a day where he feeds for 1.5-2 hrs and then only sleeps for 30 min or an hour and wants to be fed again. Needless to say I'm going a little nutty already and it is only his 12th day in this world. I keep telling myself that this will get better in a few weeks.Chat Icon

It will get so much better. I have to remind my 6 month old to eat -- he gets so busy doing other fun things that he forgets. When he does eat, it's only for about 10min. I actually miss having a cuddly little baby eating in my arms for what seemed like hours on end.

First off...Chat Icon

Second... all completely normal. YourChat Icon will eventually form a schedule of his own. Give him and yourself some time to adjust. We've all been through similar things.

Yes, this is me!! Actually, this is/was me for both my girls Chat Icon Abby is a "snacker" and sometimes, especially during the evening, I feel like I'm BF for hours on end. I eat dinner with the Boppy and the baby on my lap!

Honestly, at this point, I am very discouraged and as a result, HATE breastfeeding and wish I could stop. However, I know good news is around the corner--I ended up loving breastfeeding Katherine and was really sad to have to give it up at 14 weeks to return to work.

I would just say give it time, hang in there, and really, it does get soooo much easier!!

definitely. at 3 weeks I started. he just wanted to suck and would get mad at times that milk was coming out. pacifier was really soothing to him....I would put it in his mouth and rock him, he would go right to sleep.

DS never really took a pacifier, but I would have used it if I could have.

I remember how hard it was to feed the baby all the time, but I also remember someone telling me that it was nature's way of making sure that you rest, which is true. If you think about it you have to be sitting, resting the whole time you're feeding the baby.

Re: Spinoff to newborn feeding

DD took forever to learn to latch but once she did she learned how much she likes it. Now I feel like sometimes she nurses just to nurse and then spits it back up or never swallows it in the first place.

Keep up the good work. It gets easier!!

Re: Spinoff to newborn feeding

That is how it was for me. I was BF and Cadence would just stay on me for hours but as soon as I took her off she would cry. I stopped BF and went to formula and that never happened again.

Re: Spinoff to newborn feeding

My DD will be 3 weeks tomm. I too felt the same way as you and posted on here for encouragement a few weeks ago.

It is still very hard. But I will admit that it appears to be getting easier. Last night DD slept for 4 hours straight.

We are at 2 - 3 hour feedings for 30 minutes. But sometimes it varies and she will only nurse from one breast for 10 -15 minutes and then go to sleep for an hour and get back up to nurse again. It is definitely a challenge. But I am trying to keep the faith that it really does get better in time as the BTDT ladies have said.

So Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to you!! And just know that we are all in this together. Hang in there. You are doing your best!!

Re: Spinoff to newborn feeding

I'm in the same boat.

Logan has been eating every 1.5 - 2 hours during the day for 30 minutes at a pop.

At least twice a day though (usua;;y at 9 and 5) he eats for an hour or evern 90 minutes. Those sessions are flat out exhausting for me.

I'm lucky that he seems to be okay with his days and nights at this point and sleeps for 4-6 hours between feedings at night.

Today he's been so warm that he's sleeping for a longer time between feedings, so I fear tonight is going to be a long one for us!

I could have written this word for word about Cailen!!!

Do a search for me in early April - you will see!!!

It gets better - but at 7 wks, it still is difficult - he is not on any type of schedule - but last night he slept for 4 hrs in a row!!! Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to newborn feeding

normal for BF baby - it's to get your supply up and for the baby's comfort a little too...

Don't be shocked if there's a two hour consecutive BFing marathon in there too!
