Spinoff to Girl Name Poll

Posted by waterspout4

I love Sierra Belle!!!!

So did we.

Since everyone is voting for that I will add some background as to why we are now having a debate about it.

DH has this friend whose dog is named Sierra. This friend of his and I had a major falling out and essentially are only civil when we see each other b/c I am polite (she ignores me unless I say hi first).

When DH told me about the dog he said he wanted to pick a different name b/c the dog is a total ****** and hates him and growls etc whenever he goes over there. I was a bit indifferent since I never met the dog.

Well, we went to a wedding where said dog owner was invited. Turns out the groom's great niece is named Sierra. When DH said to dog owner - guess what the baby's name is - she looked confused so DH said Sierra - and dog owner's response was . . . (in a very sickeningly sugary sweet tone that I would never in a million years associate with said dog owner) "oooo, just like my doggy". Chat Icon Chat Icon And now I can't get that image out of my head.

So, for those that chose Sierra - would you still use it????

I didn't choose Sierra, but after that story, I wouldn't use it. I wouldn't want to give her the satisfaction, even if I loved the name.

yeah same here. I've vetoed names because of bad associations with people or animals.

Re: Spinoff to Girl Name Poll

So funny you posted this, b/c I was going to post a similar experience I had the other night.

I generally have a no-telling baby name policy. I broke it the other night when I told my youngest sister the baby name. Her response, "I know 3 people whose dogs have that name." I was so annoyed, but then realized (a) that's what I get for sharing the name, (b) screw her (temporary thought out of anger), and (c) I really don't care - DH & I love that name and that's what matters.

So, the bottomline of my long-winded response is that if you love that name, then to hell with that girl. With her attitude, I would tend to think she won't be involved in your (or your child's) life for that much longer.

Good luck with your choice. Screw that haters! Chat Icon

For reasons that are waaaay too complicated to get into, she will be a part of DH's life forever - and by extension I will have to tolerate her on occasion. (like when I see her on Saturday Chat Icon )

In that case, I'm sorry to hear that. If it were me, and I really loved the name (which I do btw), then I'd name Chat Icon Sierra anyway. I'd also arm myself with a bunch of sharp-witted comebacks to anything she might say to you in the future.

If you're not sooo committed to the name, then I'd look for another name. Have you considered Sienna?
