Spinoff to End-of-Year Gifts - If you contribute to a class gift...

do you still buy your own individual gift for the teachers as well?

Our class mom collected $10 per teacher and $5 per aide for the class gift (my DS is in an integrated class, so there are 2 teachers and 2 aides).

I feel like I would have spent more than this on my own, so I'm contemplating purchasing additional gift cards from my DS. But I also have to buy for his speech and OT teachers, and the bus driver and aide, and I feel like it's adding up very quickly.

What does everyone else do in this situation? TIA!

Depends... this year my DD's class mom collected $7. I assume $5 for the teacher and $2 for the aide. To me that is not nearly enough so I ended up doing my own thing.

In your case, I think the collection that was taken is sufficient. As you said it adds up quickly and you have other people to buy for as well. If you had the means and wanted to add a little something, that would be extra nice. Maybe just a small flowering plant ($4 or something) with a little note that says "thank you for helping me grow this year!" We did this for teacher appreciation week and the teachers loved it!!!

I still buy my own gift. It does add up, especially because I have 2 children in 2 different schools. (preschool and kindergarten)

I'm doing GCs - $25 for teachers and assistants. $5 for the extra teachers. $25 for the bus driver.

Our school collects $35 for each parent per class and that gets divided. I would like to do separate gifts but they request that you do not give something additionally if you contribute.

I am. We gave $25 for the teacher and aides gifts.

I'm probably going to give the teacher. $15 dd gc and $10 to each aid.

It adds up, but this is dd's last year in the school and they've been very good to her.

$20. per child. As I have two in the same class... $40. btwn teacher and assistant. I won't be giving an additional gift as they also collected $20. per child during the holidays.

They do not collect for the specials so I give $10. gift cards for each special... after care, library, music, computers, Spanish, Phys Ed, nurse. I gave Dunkin Donuts for the holidays and Barnes and Noble for the end of the year.

We usually get a gift card in addition to the class gift. But my kid may be more high maintenance than yours so I consider it combat pay for the teachers Chat Icon

I always do.

I was a teacher long before I became a mom and it's customary in the school I work at to give individual gifts so I followed that.

As another poster said, my kids are pretty high maintenance so their teachers definitely earn a little extra something, and in the case of my older son, a BIG extra something.Chat Icon

I don't give extra, just what the class contributes

I always give extra. I do. I think $10 is enough of a gift..
