Spinoff: Question to second time moms getting a new crib.

I think we need to get a second crib. Our children will only be 16 months apart. The baby will be in a cradle in our room for at least the first four months. DH thinks we won't need another crib and DS could move into a toddler bed then, but he will only be 20 months. Isn't that too soon? When do children usually move out of the crib?

Re: Spinoff: Question to second time moms getting a new crib.

my ds went in his twin bed at 21 months and my dd will go in her bed next month she will be 20 months.. Im doing it early so that shes out of the crib for a bit before the baby gets here. she will have to share her room with her brother so I want her adjusted but I think 20 months is fine to put a baby in a real bed especially if there is a side guard on the bed.. my dd already has climbed in her brothers bed for the past few months and watched movies in there with him so I know shes capable of getting in and out.

20 months is not too young for a toddler bed but I think "they" say it is better to transition the toddler before the baby arrives if possible so they do not feel like they are getting "kicked out" of the crib for the new baby Chat Icon

I agree with your DH. I wouldn't invest the $ in another crib. I'd do the bed transition.

Thanks so much ladies!! I think we will do the toddler bed. Not sure if we can/will transition before the baby gets here, because he just might be too young then, but we will play it by ear. I really didn't want to get a second crib.
